Unhelpful sponsors.

I have found most sponsors are helpful when you ask them a question, however some of them won't help unless you send them lots of sales.

I have a blog that gets a lot of traffic but its a non hardcore site. I know what converts on it, so I asked a sponsor that had great content I could convert if they could do me some banners using particular models in a particular size, and the response I got was it will be added to the list of banners to be considered. The only reason I asked the sponsor was because the blog although mainstream tends to only convert gay sponsors, probably because the blog features male celebrities, and this particular sponsor had some guys that would convert but only had hardcore banners.

My main sponsor has always created banners on request even before I converted with them and has always been happy to do so. I just assumed all sponsors are happy to help, but apparantly not. Unless you send the sales it seems some are not interested.

I dropped the sponsor anyway. I am not wasting my time if they don't want to help.

Just wondering what other people's experiences are. Do you get help when you ask for tools, banners etc. Or do you just get fobbed off ?

I wouldn't expected a sponsor to do anything special for me unless I was making regular sales with them.

I have had great success getting help from sponsors. Even though I am a minnow and not a whale. Just yesterday I needed assistance with something and Mario from Loaded Cash helped me out big time.

That's the way I look at it, too. If they help it's great but I wouldn't drop a sponsor just because they wouldn't make a banner.

the truth is you are kind of on your own in this business when it comes to converting a sponsor. If you find one that gives you special attention count yourself lucky because most of them won't

I guess you have to put yourself in the sponsors shoes, maybe 5000 affiliates at least, 10% of them want something from you, that's 500 jobs, banners etc to create and get through with the risk of it being a no brainer.

You say you dropped the sponsor anyway, a better option would have been to convert some of your traffic into sales for them and at least show you were willing to make an effort.

Some sponsors give you nothing but a few pre-made banners, no FHG, no assistance, nothing.

I've had my designer make up banners for the most part, but with some sponsors I have asked and have never been turned down, but know someday I will.

I have sponsors that will work with me, that help me, that create content and banners for me. In return I send them lots of traffic and it converts well for me, my main sponsor converts at around 1:150 and I send a fair bit of traffic.

So an unhelpful sponsor is not needed. Theres plenty about that want my business so they are the ones I will concentrate on.

Everyone starts of by not sending much traffic and sales, the top affiliates all started by sending nothing. So sponsors should not assume because someone is not sending traffic today, you won't be their biggest affiliate next year.

I do try and make my own banners, its just this sponsor didn't have many non hardcore images so I had to ask them.

I make banners to use for my sponsors sometimes. They usually give me permission to use them.

If you want a softcore banner & only have hardcore images to use then just you take your time to find an image you can use by using a part of the picture. Like if you have a model you like - and all pics of him show him erect then just focus on his face for your banner.

I mean you nearly always only use part of a photo for a banner anyway.

when I broke into the biz I bought my own content, made my own custom banners if I didnt like the ones offered, paid for my own hosting, built my own sites and asked sponsors for nothing more than to send me checks.

Its most likely why I'm still here and people who took free handouts and looked for special help are not

I own my own content, I create my own banners. I pay for my own hosting. I build my own sites.

This still doesn't change the fact, that when you ask a sponsor for something if they are not prepared to help, then they are not worth the effort of promoting.

I know its easy to create banners. I think people forget, ultimately you are making the sponsor money, so to ask for a little thing like a banner is not a big deal and they should be happy to help. You may be getting 50% of sales you send, but we all know that not all traffic you send will sign up and be cookied, so the sponsor is always getting bonus signups from heaver promoters.

If you know your surfers, and what and how to sell to them, then you are the best person to create, or have created, the banners. Just think how it would end up if the custom banners from your sponsor weren't right and didn't sell.

Why use banners anyway - 3 or 4 thumbs with a bit of text would probably be more effective (and bypass the ad blockers).

So you believe in dishonest marketing techniques?

My best converting paysite sponsors don't want me, or anyone else, to use any third party content to promote their sites.

That's because they make their own content. And that's what they want their affiliates to promote. My job is to promote their content and their paysite/s, not someone else's.

I'm not interest, for the most part, in promoting cookie cutter sites. I'm not interest in conversion ratios any worse than 1:300.

I don't like chargebacks, or believe in doing shit that is likely to lead to them. Like using pictures of a girl to promote a paysite when she isn't featured in the member's area.
