Did the internet reinvent communism?
ok, so i'm not a conspiricist - honestly! but, when the technology of the internet was released from darpa, it was for spreading information. good and bad, information and misinformation, free content and copyrighted content all flies back and forth across the internet daily.
opensource software has really taken off due to the nature of the internet - where international programmers coloborate and program - essentially without getting paid. musicians write and upload music for free dl, people blog for free - information about themselves, all freely available. so, it goes without saying that copyrighted videos, music, pornography can all be accessed for free too - it is 'information'. so, is copyright being destroyed by this easy accessibility? is a type of world being created where digital content is created for the 'good' of mankind, and spread freely using the internet? a kind of communistic, world because it's for the better of mankind, than money world? there are many technologies still hidden within the us military - why was the internet released? as a distraction to help deter people away from something? hitler wanted radios to be cheap, as he realised the importance of reaching out to the masses and used it to full effect during the war. tinfoil hats at the ready! __________________

stupid failure in history. Years ago - at a convention in england - one of the grand old ladys of the internet (can't remember her name) said that the day politicians start to understand what the internet is they will be scared shitless. I think that is what is happening now. I am sure a lot of them would love to shut down the net, but that's not longer possible of course. ![]() Look at china and their desperate efforts to censor the web or european countries whos bureaucracys dream of doing the same... like finnland for example __________________

maybe more work in a country would be done if there was heavy censorship? just think of all the potential work hours wasted from funny pictures and porny pictures being sent around the office - so censorship on a country level actually makes some sort of sense! __________________

politicians have 20+ side jobs and public demonstrate that those jobs are more important than their mandate or their own party i should have considered that. ![]() Quote:
Like North Korea does? Who needs freedom of information and speech or freedom itself? Strange thing is that nobody of us (at least i think so) wants to live in such a country. Don't get me wrong, if a company censors their internal network, no problem with that. But cencorship at country level is a different thing. __________________

Well orginialy the idea of the internet was very socialist, heck probably even anarchist in nature. People were free to express ideas on an equal footing with others, and it was real communication, a two way exchange, interactive.
It didn't take very long though for the capitalists to figure out that this was the most powerful marketing medium in history and so today we have a one way form of programming. A glorified TV that you can spend your money on without even leaving the house. Really when was the last time anything was interactive on the internet? Isn't everything just a ruse to get you to look at ads, and filter you to buy something eventually. As for the Hitler and radios comment, it's long been established that radios, then TVs and now computers/internet are great for influencing the masses. We must have learned that from all the SS officers we took in to start the CIA after WW2. __________________

The Internet was released to destroy the English language, and to force people to use incorrect American spelling. Never fear though, there is a secret resistance group dedicated to overthrow the corruption of the world's greatest language.

The revenue from open source does not come in from a traditional license scheme, but from either: support contracts for said software, or cost control via better IT systems that do not require licensing and support from the vendor, or both. Quote:
