it's not complicated with phpmyadmin

go to host from where you wanna transfer=> export database (sql)

go to host where you wanna have the new database (import from the previously exported file)

create the new database
=>import the tables (import the
if you are moving the files you need to change
host, username, password and database name in the configuration files

be sure to check if everything is in his place before deleting the source database

If you have CPanel support, find and click on the link that says "Backups" then you will see a label "Download a MySQL Database Backup" and bellow that all your databases. Click on the one you want to download on your PC. After that, go to your new cpanel from the second hoster, click again on "Backups" find the label that says "Restore a MySQL Database", click Browse, select the database sql from your PC and click on the Upload button.

If you wan to do it with phpMyAdmin, then:
1. log-in to phpMyAdmin
2. find and click on the link called 'Export"
3. Chose the database name you want to backup and check the Save as File option
4. Click Go and download it to your Desktop
5. Go to your new phpMyAdmin hosting account, log-in and click Import
6. Chose the sql file from your desktop and click Go.

That should do the trick

If the database is huge, here's what I do:

1. Use this script to back up your current database.
- Edit the user/pass/database variables in that script
- Edit the BACKUPS directory variable to a temporary directory on your server, with 777 permissions.
- Rename that script to whateveryouwant.php and run it on your server.
- That will give you a compressed GZ file of your database, and it will be placed in the directory you specified above.
- It's also handy to run this script as a cron job for backups of your DB.

2. Now, on your new server....
- Upload the .GZ file from above
- Grab a copy of this script (it's called Big Dump) and edit the mysql variables for your NEW
database on your NEW server. (They're on line 80)
- Rename the script to whateveryouwant.php and put it on your new server.
- Put this script file in the same directory as the .GZ file, and run the script. From there you can select the .GZ file and it will import it to your new database, no matter how big that database might be.

People overlook this too often. Good hosts will initiate/accept server-to-server file and db transfers.

The guys above have pretty much summed it up, so I am not going to try and re-invent the wheel.

However, bits like this are great for the new/tech challenged amongst the ponders, a 'how-to' thread would help some out no end...

maybe because doing it yourself with instructions posted in this thread (thanks guys) will take less time than hitting up hosts and them managing it. Plus you will have database moving experience which is a good thing.

Or it gives you more time to focus on making money rather than sysadmin tasks. And if it's a good host, it will be much faster than learning and doing it yourself.

If I could spend 5-10 minutes of my time to learn new things in life I would do that. My phylosophy - the more things you know the better. Or knowing how to do domething is better than not knowing how to do something. Wheter it is sysadmin task or few sentences of italian language. Even if it cost 5-10 minutes of your time. Even if it cost 30 minutes.
