How do I know which one am I using?

LOL, If you are able to run most programs, you are running the x86 version. The 64 bit version in my experience is very picky on software.
but to really find out for sure, Troubleshooting Windows XP, Tweaks and Fixes for Windows XP go to that page and run the program on the right hand side, line 258

x64 will ONLY run on a 64bit processor ... so the answer to your question relies on what type processor you have?
