IE6 or IE7

Do you guys code for IE6 still? I have css for firefox and IE7 but I just looked at my site in IE6 and it looks pretty bad compared to how it looks in other browsers.

I mean IE6 doesn't even support transparency for png files!!

Also are Google Analytics accurate for browser version? According to them 25% of my visitors are still using IE6! WTF!

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">

Thats my header, should I take the strict out?
well change it to: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

HAHA. Freaked me out this morning when I looked at a site that's in the pipes with IE6. Bloody effing awful mess -- Instant Panic. ---->>Clears head and thinks--->Anyone using IE6 probably has little or no coin to blow imo. Furthermore, anyone that is serious about getting their paid-for-porn is with it and up to date. imox2

Thoughts?

tgpfarm got to The W3C Markup Validation Service and see do you have properly created xhtml pages. (Xhtml is standard recommended from 2000, and all new browsers are created to follow xhtml standards)

Learn basics here: XHTML Tutorial

That could easily end in tears - yours . If you're doing anything more advanced than basic HTML and a little bit of CSS (and only a little bit), then you could be in for some nasty surprises if one day you happen to look at your site in a browser you didn't test it with when you designed the site.

I speak from experience .

Well I have xp installed in a vm for IE testing purposes, also Opera. Though pretty much everyone besides Microsoft follows the xhtml guidelines.

I'm still using IE6 to check my sites, but IMO it's about damn time to switch to IE7.0, since it already is more popular than IE6.

For everyday surfing I use FF, but you pretty much ought to see what your site looks in IE6 or 7

I use both Firefox for design purposes and browse with IE6. For some reason im just not keen on change. Everything i do is done the long way but its also the right way. If it looks good in my browser combo it will look good in just about any browser.

Wait till u see your sites in FF3 and IE8 - It will give you nightmares.

But, when they are both standard things should get easier as they are both meant to be standards compliant. Looking at the test results it looks promising.

How can you live without tabbed browsing?!?

Look at these stats: TheCounter.com

I wonder though, how many surfers that are using IE6 have trojans, spyware, adware, etc. that change ref codes like the zango crap and such.

I believe people that are still using IE6 are the same people that have no problem double clicking on a exe keygen they got off some Russian site.

FF3 causes the least problems - IE8 is the nasty one - Even some of the MS site is fucked in it.

It also depends on what is on your site of course - u may not have any trouble with any of them.

I think the problems will be if you have 'fixed' your code to work in IE and FF as both should render pages in the same way. The 'fixes' may well be the things that break a page in the new versions.

FF rules

i check my sites on IE7. IE6 is past, no matter lots of surfers still use it.

Last week i installed IE8 to try and see how my sites look on it, its damn fast really, but the bastard has so many settings that even didn't let me see and open files from the next pc in my local network, so i deleted it immediately and went back to IE7. I just hope surfers won't be using IE8 soon..

I code for/with Firefox and standards, and then apply fixes for IE6 and 7.

I stopped supporting IE5 about 12-18 months ago.

IE8 has a setting that they were going to use a proprietory piece of code for, but may now just use doctype switching instead, but anyhow, it will render EXACTLY the same as IE7 if you use the switch.
