HELP, FireFox is pissing me off!

I recently upgraded to the latest stable build of FireFox (2.0.0.13) and now the fucking thing is pissing me off to no end! Keeps jumping to using up 50%+ CPU usage several times per minute! Anyone got a fix for this?!?

FF is an interesting software. For me, the latest stable not showing the GIF images made by myself, and not showing the ones downloaded from sponsors and using on my host. IE working perfectly. But, with FF3 Beta every GIF image is okay.

Plugins and extensions could be the culprit DamageX, some of them are hawgs. I would uninstall anything you don't use.

LOL... that is not a solution!

When your wife pisses you off, do you go & get another!

A solution to a problem is fixing it, not disgarding it & getting something else.

Firefox works for quite a few people, probably more than Opera.

I'm still on .11 and at time I can go 2 weeks and it's fine, then I'll reboot and a day or two later it's used up 500k like *that* or I get that "Windows is using all the memory" error and I have 2 gigs of RAM.

Now I definitely won't upgrade but that annoying thing keeps asking me to!

I don't want to start another "best browser" war...
For me Opera works great, and when i used firefox i always had problems ( random crashes, dissapearing bookmarks etc. ) - i just gave DamageX so he can check out "alternative" browsers.

Hmm, mine never did that to me and I have the latest version too.

If memory is an issue then use Opera.

I use them all, more or less regularly, that's the whole point behind using FF to begin with. If I were to uninstall the plugins then I could just as well go back to IE...

Memory is not an issue, it's CPU usage. Besides, Opera is known to have similar memory leakage problems to FF anyway.

i upgraded recently and all is fine. Probably it is some of your extensions probably. Try disabling all and see how it will handle. Also a fresh install could help too

You can use Ctr + Shift + ESC to show the task manager (it can be done with one hand )

If your on windows i would say try out Firefox 3b5 portable edition. This way all your plugins, bookmarks, and setting are left untouched. I have found FF3b5 to be pretty damn good, alot of memory leaks have been fixed.

I agree ...

I see this often with clients computers, and 90% of the time, it is not Firefox to blame, but a thrid party plugin ...

Check that all your plugins are meant to run with 2.0.0.1.3, and update them to their current versions, or disable if need be.

I think what Firefox is going to have to do eventually if they want ot dominate the browser wars, is to start a Plugin Certification Program ... where plugins are tested to meet certain standards before they are allowed to be listed on Mozilla's plugin pages ...

Sure you can always take your chances with a non-certified plugin you find somewhere else, but I think it would be a huge step up in responsibility to their loyal users to initiate this sort of a certification process for every new plugin.

Anybody from Mozilla paying attention?!?

Again I will stress ... most of these so-called memory leaks in FF are not in the browser itself, but rather in the plugins that we all have come to love using.

Firefox itself - right out of the box - comsumes very little memory, and is quick as a whip too!

Only after you start bogging it down with your favorite plugins, do you start to see memory leaks and reduced performance.

Basically the only way to troubleshoot this, is to turn off (disable) your plugins one at a time ... use firefox for a bit ... disable another one ... use it a bit ... wash, rinse, and repeat until you find the plugin that causes the leak, and then disable it, and turn on the other plugins.

1000K every hour is not anything to worry about ... but 300K over the period of 24 hours is a leak that should be troubleshooted.

now there's an idea, hopefully someone from Mozilla does read this and take it into consideration, would do their company a world of good and only makes sense to do something like that.

I am betting a plugin is the problem DX. Disable your plugins one at a time and see which one is the culprit.

Then send me money cuz i'm your favourite Aussie

FF has been known to leak memory. I've to close it and open it every 1 hour or so otherwise it becomes too slow.

When fresh, the memory usage is about 50k, one hour later around 300k and massive slow down.
