Webmaster Emergency Preparedness...Are you ready?
Okay so I had to spend time recouperating in the hospital a while back. I got to thinking if I was out for the count for any given time like a month or a year at worst, were my online assets in order or would I need to be there daily?
Luckily I had prepared for this many years ago and found out at least 90% of what I've done online business wise would keep on keeping on as long as the companies I partnered with were still there. It would take a massive across the board corporate web collapse to take me out. I then restructured this month to make super sure that I had online endeavors that would keep on if I were holed up somewhere and sending money electronically to accounts etc. I was surprised to see I really had many things in order. This past week another opportunity, something I had been waiting for years to happen just happened and that new business will continue to make me money as a comic book producer for years and years. ( I worked in comic books for many years ). So again I got to thinking, with all the weather problems and people problems, if shit happened how long could you hold out? Do you have all your processing companies with a solid address and do you have your e-accounts in order too? I have to admit this past year on Netpond I shut up and listened and did some very smart things. Even got a new funding source account opened for me yesterday and thought it was a joke. I figured I'd use that money in case a new idea for a business comes up. Bottom line is hope for the best, prepare for the worst. __________________

Domains and hosting seem to be the first things to go. Domains are easy because you can register for 2 or 3 years ahead, and that gives you SE advantages, and avoids the planned increases by Verisign.

it's a good point greg, i have been giving this some thought myself lately. it becomes even more important when a family depends on that income.
my financial setup is just fine. i am now in the process of arranging all the info that is needed to run my biz in a neatly organized way, so my wife can simply continue it if something should happen to me. |

You can run automated updaters for content on blogs and such but there are software upgrades too. So it's possible but you do need that occasional tweak. You set up a couple of bank accounts for paying for services like hosting and you should be good to go. Combine it into your estate and an attorney should be able to get someone to do the tweaking for you. __________________
