txs 4 the help. My aging prog. refuses to co-operate so I'll have to leave it out I guess. The link works fine but not sure if I'll get paid so best be leaving it alone I figs.

Anyone have an extra drawing board? Mine is in tatters. lol

Don't use such linking ( <a href="http://www.mysponsor.com/t1/revscf=freedom2/ rel='nofollow">link</a> )

If your program refuses to do corrext syntax of nofollow, don't use it at all. Cause now links will be parsed like "http://www.mysponsor.com/t1/revscf=freedom2/%20rel='nofollow ", and it's totally wrong.

Yeah and the sponsor server stats will show a nice nofollow, which they may or may not care about, but still...

Why no follow your sponsor links? I love extra sales that come direct from SE's because my ref link has been indexed.

The idea behind it is that you are giving away page rank needlessly and/or you could have multiple links heading to same sponsor so you could "no follow" all but 1.

My dino software prog. won't let me do it anyways so moot point for moi.

There was a discussion about that. If you do SEO and if you believe that all outbound links "leaking" your PR, you should put a nofollow on sponsor links. Also, some SEO experts says that you should have less than 100 outgoing links per page, so if you have huge blog trade list, putting nofollow on sponsor doesn't count them as outgoing links. That's of course not proven, but very likely.

If you're so concerned about SEO that you close off routes to sales, as in Rebel's example, you're doing something VERY wrong.

If you are worried about SEO, then send it to one of your pages, and then refresh to the sponsor. That blocks a few of the link thieves as well.

A neat suggestion, also aids with counting clicks too.

Any onpage stuff like "nofollow" is artificial webmastery, and runs the risk (however great or small) of google detecting a contrived effort of manipulation!

Google prefers pages written by everyday folk for everyday people with some great content and information, and everyday folk certainly dont even know about the existance of "nofollow" tags.

Rebel's example is also a SEO thing, but it relies mostly on luck (ref links becoming indexed and ranking high).

The outgoing links of a site are a very important factor in how an SE can judge the trustworthiness of that site. On a top ranking for a very competitive keyword, every single outgoing link can make a HUGE difference. Some paysites rank well and can be totally relevant, other paysite domains are completely sandboxed...

You have a good point about great content written by everyday folk. But google sees using nofollow as good practice eg on sold links. That's why I wouldn't classify it as artifical webmastery or anything spooky, it's as white hat as can be

My point is it BECOMES artificial once folks start placing them left right and center all over their sites in a contrived manner... just like any seo gimmick, it can AND WILL be open to abuse... and G will spot this.
