Life Imitates Art - John Stagliano Foreshadows Indictment! (VIDEO)

The latest effort by the Bush administration to control the minds of Americans comes in the form of an obscenity prosecution of legendary adult filmmaker John Stagliano.

Monday April 21st, Stagliano will be arraigned in federal court in Washington D.C. on charges of distribution of obscene material. The movies in question are Storm Squirters 2 and Milk Nymphos. An additional charge of obscenity will be made against a trailer that appears as part of Stagliano’s web site, evilangel.com. Stagliano will make a short statement and take questions on the steps of the E. Barrett Pettyman Courthouse, at 333 Constitution Avenue, at approximately 11:30 am that day.

I'm a big fan of a whole lot of hardcore porn coming out of the Evil Angel studios, but the US really doesn't seem like a particularly friendly place to set up shop if you're planning on doing something slightly more "experimental" than merely plain ol' hardcore.
And I bet Bush and his right wing goons would like nothing better than to put an end even to that if it was feasible.

Perhaps John Stagliano pushed some political buttons with that show - with the references to terrorism especially. It sounds like these indictments may well be more about politics than porn and obscenity.

Of course, if we allow the action of terrorists against our societies and interests in the "free world" to erode our democratic rights in any way whatsoever, then we are letting them win some significant battles that may even eventually mean that they achieve their aims.

I mean for pity's sake, I've actually contemplated voting for a Tory recently. A Tory buffoon what's more. Because on the issue of compulsory National Identity Cards in the UK he said "I would grind up my ID card in my Moulinex."

I have to remember that he has also had to publicly apologize for referring to black people as piccaninnies. And that in 2001 he had this to say about same-sex marriage. "If gay marriage was OK - and I was uncertain on the issue - then I saw no reason in principle why a union should not be consecrated between three men, as well as two men, or indeed three men and a dog."

The man may not actually be innately racist or homophobic, but he sure is good at putting his foot in his mouth and upsetting people.

I don't actually see why you can't have multiple people married together so someone should have called his bluff. Dunno about the dog though

And so what if he pushed political buttons? Porn can be more than just sexual acts, you can also tell a story or promote an agenda if you want, though I understand that's not a popular concept among current professionals in the industry.

I'm a polyamorist myself. But I draw the line at non-humans. Although I'm sure some spouses feel their partner is more in love with his/her pet/pets than they are with them

Well is cynical of me to suspect that John Stagliano may have consciously or subconsciously brought this legal action upon himself? Because he feels he will probably win the case and garner a lot of publicity in the process, resulting in increased sales. In fact even if he loses, an increase in sales is likely. It's probably already happening I'd imagine.

So you can't have backup plans or ulterior motives? That sounds like a smart move to me if he's doing it on purpose. Even if it does end up benefiting him you can't say it's a risk free proposition.

It's not like the crusaders of morality aren't looking to fast track their political goals by heading witch hunts, so why can't we be smart either?
