I can tell you that other forums using VB do this -- X number of posts before you can post a working URL.

I incorporated that into my phpBB forum a while back. They also can't put a URL, ICQ, Yahoo or eMail address into their profile until they have X number of posts.

i agree with lezgeri. such a new rule would only delay the process and let them hang around. digitalpoint has this rule - look at all the bs that is still posted there...

Damn i agree with you again that is no fun

But your right if they post bullshit like cp, stolen content or whatever, just ban their asses and delete the thread why wait until they got 50 postings for example, i think it is a lot a hassle and unnecessary imho.

I think its a good idea. I don't think that someone looking to make quick or easy money off stolen content will stay around for five hundred posts. Its not worth thier time when they can register spam other places and then not post again.

Technically it would also give the mods more time to hunt down established "naughty netponder's" and their alleged inflamatory posts...

Nothing wrong with it in my book. But, to me, what you seem to be saying here is that you'd be okay with having to make 300 posts more than you've made so far before you could start a thread like that with a link in it.

C'mon ponders this is ridiculous. You're going to DESTROY Netpond if you pursue this policy.

Either that, or mods and admin are going to spend all their time dealing with, and reviewing, "special cases". With every other new member pleading for exemption. And having just cause to do so what's more.

I belong to another forum that put this rule into place.

all the happened is Sam Spammer would figure it out and then post about 50 times on the newbie board "welcome to the forum" or the Birthday one "Happy Birthday" (even though doesnt know the person) and to the Laughter One "Haha - great one!"

all it did was junk up the community building posts - with one liners from someone who did not care about community building...

Let the Spammers make themselves known right away and just delete em...

Also -there are legitimate times for a first time poster to post a URL - New company Rep for example
