California Wants +25% Tax On Porn

abc7.com: Adult entertainment industry in Calif. says proposal for additional tax is unfair 4/21/08

This is interesting. It would hit so many people it would be ridiculous. So far such tax proposals have failed. It's because California is so strapped for money because of it's huge growing population and the credit, foreclosure nightmares. I can assure you, if they get 25% of income they'll go for more because that's about half a billion bucks and these greedy lawyers in California would get addicted to it and want more. If it happens I expect the adult industry to pack up and go elsewhere. Mind you this also affects online porn. Problem with that is you can establish your online business anywhere, set it on automatic and laugh at these clowns.

The porn industry would move to Nevada or Florida. They would be shooting themselves in the foot.

This would likely be facially invalid under the 1st Amendment of the US Constitution. There is case law stating that taxing speech is unconstitutional. I think there was also recently a case in Texas where a "pole tax" was thrown out because of this very reason- ie, that dancing was protected speech and the tax on it therefor invalid.

Of course, its not like the Rights of The People have mattered a lot to these big government types lately.

Well ,when you got a state assembly, senate, and governor who like to spend taxpayers money like drunken sailors, this is what you get. They always say they need more money, but how about NOT spending more than what you bring in?

Frustrating.

Well having lived out here for 8 years + and being part of government in more ways than I care to mention, the primary thing I can say about the problems of California are simple: Cowardly leadership.

It doesn't get any more complicated than that.

Politicians here and the legislative body in general are such chickenshits and chickenhawks, it's a miracle anything gets done. They talk more tough bullshit than you can shake a stick at but once they get elected they kiss gangster ass faster than a gun moll with new lipstick on.

The criminal infrastructure of California is so massive and intricate the minute you get elected you might as well paint a bullseye on your head.

Right now tensions between blacks and mexicans is scary. They're shooting each other at random. No more gang vs gang, it's gangs versus civilians. They even shot an unarmed man in a wheelchair yesterday after a rash of shootings of school kids. How fucking low can you get shooting kids and crippled people? The prisons have had major lockdowns with black and mexican inmates fighting in the prisons. When police chief Bratten was asked on tv if there was a race problem he attacked the reporter asking him the questions. Then when the sheriff backed up there were race problems Bratten looked like an ass. Then just last week someone complained about the immigrant/crime problem and Bratten told him if he didn't like the way the police were handling it, he should move to another state.

WTF? Even Governor Arnold is all pussied up with nowhere to go. He's no longer what Republican is supposed to be. See, out here the criminals have so many resources especially in setting people up for crimes or getting the dirt on people for extortion. They're very good out here. The elitist Democrats sit around posing with pictures of poor blacks and latinos and then as soon as their backs are turned they call the cops to keep them out of their neighborhoods.

This is all an attempt to rip off more people because they ain't got balls enough to run a government right much like we have in Washington D.C. and those two assclowns in the White House.

I had mentioned this turn of events in a thread several weeks ago. The turnover versus ROI regarding porn can be so high it's now above the radar as porn has become so mainstream. It's attracting the attention of 'investors' these are people who have no ethics or any semblance of humanity who are interested in only one thing: MONEY.

If spitting into the wind and having it hit you in the face made money, they'd be here. Same with the oil problem. So many people invested in oil the past few years the price has doubled.

Watch for more mainstream intrusions into porn. That's when we all should be worried.

It's a great state if you're into that 'look the other way' shit but then it turns around and bites you in the ass. I'm sitting here literally watching hundreds of people, some famous, eating shit and dying on the vine as I speak. They sat around for years putting on false faces and fucking people over and thought your's truly was a pushover. When I had to hand a few of them their asses both physically and legally, other people who were tired of their shit followed through in a big way. I could sit here and gloat but it's pitiful to see this state go downhill. It'd be a laugh if porn was the only thing that saved it.
