The "no bumping old threads" rule is silly.
Old threads are very informative and hurt nothing by being bumped.
In fact, some of the most amazing, interesting, and informative threads were started pre-2001.
I think some industrious netpond owner should link to the archived old old threads.

Now I am not piling on the pond or the mods over this issue, I'm just so full of myself that I think my opinion should be noted.

Yeah some great threads in the past, both entertaining and informative.

Its when some idiot bumps a thread that relates to goings on from years ago where the info is no longer relevant. The last thing a board needs is really old threads being bumped all over the shop.

Maybe a forum for good old threads or something ... I don't know a perfect solution though.

ridiculing people who bump useless threads works for me.

It's mainly done when some fledgling nickle whore runs out of threads to reply "cool" or "I didn't know that" in and starts trawling the archives and giving us all a severe case of deja vu

Maybe they bump old threads because they are not up-to-date in some data, but a new post can make it useful again.

The rule should be no bumping old drama or worthless threads. If it's a biz thread, or something people can learn from then it should be fine.

I think they're just afraid on spammers. But you have a point its nice to reopen or bump an old post especially when its informative.
