Someone sent me some scanned documents and he "zipped" them as a RAR does anyone know of a free download that I can use to unzip?

after you installed that, remove winzip and never look back

With winrar you can open/pack almost [in] any popular compression format.

Or simply use Total Commander also called Windows Commander and it will open them
