The statistics i know draw a consistent picture: The more a society accepts
sexuality and it's variations as part of life the lower are sexual crimes. I think
the connection between porn and crime is only indirect. Look at the USA:
Porn is widely available but porn (and sexuality itself) is also seen as
something dangerous, immoral and dirty.

On the other hand i found a article some time ago that said that in some
areas (USA) the cases of rape significant dropped after broadband become
widely available.

My experience here in hungary is that sexuality (like religion) is seen as a
private thing. Maybe a point of view other eastern european countries share.
Maybe i'm wrong, but i think ppl here would never accept that a gov tries to

He came up with the 'porn made me do it' defense after his 'i'm mentally ill'
defense failed. Even he didn't say that porn was the reason for his crimes
but porn shaped the way he commited his crimes. (like SykkBoy already
pointed out). John Douglas says something similar in his books. Although he
is clearly no fan of porn he says that he does not know about a single case
porn was the reason of the crime. Porn (especially violent porn) can
have a significant effect on the way the crime is carried out.

In Ted Bundys case i doubt that. "gir|s getting strangled and raped" stuff is
rather rare... especially 1974, when he started.

Porn is an easy target and is an easy scapegoat for one very good reason: there is noone to defend it. If anyone defends it (who comes from outside of the industry) they will be instantly branded a pervert, the label will stick and he will be "that sicko who abuses" etc etc. A sad fact of the media and backwards, religious hangovers.

In the UK porn is very much something that you cannot trust someone else to do. YOU can handle porn, it is YOUR choice whether you watch it or not, but under no circumstances could you accept your neighbour doing porn, they MIGHT JUST turn out to be a raving loony abductor pervert.
