Price for design and support Question

I got this guy sending me mail who owns a pay site...
This is the worst pay site I have ever seen in my life and he's charging 15/month to view it.

There is next to nothing in there and it looks like it was designed my a 4 year old kid... The best he's got is video screen shots from old retro videos. Take my word for it. It's the worst site anyone could ever build.

He wants me to design a site like mine And give him 6 months support on marketing and how to edit this site as time passes... Plus .. I have to give him gallery templates and teach him how to key word those galleries .... he doesn't know anything about the business.

I told him I would do it in my spare time and he would have to pay me $3,000 dollars...

Not only that... He goes in and takes a copy of my site, only changing it around a little and then offers me 1,000 to show him how to market it... HA!

Ofcourse I sent him a copyright notice and he took it down right away.

Is my price of $3,000 wrong for all this work ?

imo you want nothing to do with this guy. 3k won't buy enough aspirin's and/or peace of mind.

Unless you REALLY need the money, thn it's a different ballgame altogether.

He's a nice enough guy so I thought that I would help him out.
I have a spare design that I'm not doing anything with. It's just a matter of showing him how to make it work and giving him tips on how to maket it, Make links trades and adding new text and photos to the gallery template. And yea, I could always use another 3 grand in my pocket.

But you're right. I got a feeling that I may have my work cut out for me.

Freedom is right. The stuff the guy did by swiping your design and the lowball price are both indicators that this guy will be more work than is worth. If you add up all the hours you are likely to spend on the project that $3K will be a lot more like $800.

3,000 $ could be a good amount if the 6 months support is well defined in the agreement. If it's 6 months of full-time support 3,000 $ is ridiculous.

I turned down the 3,000 because of his low experience level and had to explain that my new price of 4,500 would work more in both our favor.. I would be willing to put more into it to get him going if it's going to take up so much of my time...

I have 10 years experience in this business.. I would have given him some good information. I was just trying to be a good guy for a change. The design alone is worth 3 grand.

I got bored and thought this would be an ok project... I guess I should ask more question if this ever comes my way again...

Everything should always be worked out by the hour, if this entire project was going to take you 100 hours then you would be on $30 an hour, peanuts for a one-on-one private tuition.
