Comcast 250gb Limit Starting OCT 1
Looks like there will be a limit for all users on comcast of 250gb. I wonder how much this will cut back on porn dling and streaming, especially the new HD sites.
Will it cut the hardcore users from signing up for as many sites? Goodbye, BitTorrent. Hello, Streaming. Comcast 250GB Cap Goes Live October 1 - Updated: Comcast confirms our story... - dslreports.com |

The Ecstasy and the Agony

It's old news really and all the ISPs have plans to do the same in coming months. The kicker is the $1 overages which is a bit absurd but they control the bandwidth. Everyone thought it was great when the giants were buying up all the little guys and offered unlimited everything for almost nothing. The same will happen with hosting you can bet you ass they want everyone out so they can sell more paid programming. Eventually the world will be dominated by big business and nobody will be able to do anything about it.
Aussies can tell you since most of them have been capped at 40GB per month for years. __________________

At&t is iffy, the main reason why is they are pushing tv over ip. If they cap the bandwidth and there trying to sell there tv over internet services, then there is going to be some major conflicts.
There is also another problem in the usa, wep, and open wifi. Here for every one wep protected wifi router there is one open one. |

Its just a step toward the end of net neutrality. What about all your netflix streams? So many services for the home are starting to rely on the fact internet was unlimited.
Everyone used to be limited by AOL, then slowly bandwidth became unlimited, then they stopped building infrastructure (like the rest of the companies in the US) and now its an issue. Also there is no competition. I either have comcast or dsl, and dsl doesnt come into my house any faster than 3mb/s or it disconnects. I can see comcast turning their fancast into their on-demand services for the TV, so they want to start to limit BW now so that works for their TV subscribers. Interesting to see where services that were basing their business model on unlimited bw end up, the ones not owned by companies that own the backbones. |

Competition is a wonderful thing. The local company coming nto my area to compete with Charter is offering a 10 mb line ::
:: oh yeah, and their customer service and all their techs are locally based! With chart I have talked to reps in Georgia, Arizona, and now Minnesota. |

Same here in NZ .. the best plan we could get was 30gig including uploads, $10 per 5 gig after that. We usually burn through around 5gig a day, so it can really add up. It used to be much worse years ago when all isps limited you to really small caps, and you would be charged for extra usage. Entry level was around 300mb of download, and there were stories of people who didn't know any better getting $4000-20,000 bills for 1 month of access because of the overages. Aus and NZ would give a limb to have net access even half as good as the US. __________________

Videotron here in Montreal has capped my 10.1mbps line at 200GB monthly (sum of up/down) for over a year now. (We pay $1.50 per GB in overages)
