MOG.
Maybe you should overcome our prejudices by giving us more information about the way payment for the hosting is obtained. If you really are offering a free service to help webmasters, then you could save yourself a lot of work by just sending money to one of my current hosts.

Right now, nobody is thinking that this is a scam, but if you try to use the scammers technique of withholding information, and then trying to make us appear to be stupid and small minded, then you will give that impression. Netpond is not just a newbies' board, there are some very experienced and creative webmasters here.

i didnt mean my comment in a bad way, what i meant was that free hosting is great if you use it supplimetary to your own paid hosting

I wouldn't want to review your site now, and find out that you have a 5% skim, or you are geo-redirecting or installing trojans in 3 months time.

Using scripts creates vulnerabilities, and can also cause server overloads. This is especially relevant when one considers that the primary use of freehosting is for traffic pumps.

I'm not shooting you down in flames, I'd just like you to explain how you expect to make a profit. Saying that you require a text link that is solely to recruit more customers who won't be paying anything isn't even going to pay your coffee bill.
Hi head boy, just to reply to your message (and I love getting the last word in every time ):

Im fine if you dont have time to review our service, and I realise you don't believe it but Im genuinely not taking anything out of this in the short to medium term.

I do have a nice line in gaming sites (actual providers, not affiliates, if you look around in google for a while you would work out which online properties I own, and they are profitable enough - mind you if you dont have time to look at my hosting site I reckon you wont have time to look at google lol!!) and the whole hosting thing is born of an opportunity that I am trying to pick up on.

Perhaps in a year or two if I have 50,000 or 75,000 websites hosted I will try and monetise it then, so for the next year or two you could call it a loss leader.

Im in this for the long game, having quit my day-job two years ago to concentrate on my websites. If this ends up costing $1,000 or $2,000 per month in bandwidth I still think it will be worth it in the long run.

Sum cost to people using my hosting will always be zero however, thats just my take on how to do things.

Anyway, pleased to meet you and Im sure we will discuss many topics in future,

thanks,

MOG

My god, Im sorry I never just posted the link in the first place....

Its in the announcements section now, but in the interests of keeping it in one place my site is: http://www.hostedwith.us

Im not in ANY way thinking that this is a newbies board by the way... the adult market is probably the first or second most cutthroat industry on the web, along with gambling (my specialty) and I have total respect for any webmasters ability that manages to cut a living doing it!

There is no way in hell you can give thousands of people FREE 100GB Disk Space unless you have access to the Google expense account. You also stated you are on a VPS which tells me you bought some oversold plan offering 10TB of storage and think you can actually use it.

Good luck with that because you have no idea what you are getting into.

Im really surprised at the amount of cynicism going on here.

Im sorry guys but im not here to explain myself over and over to criticisms of a service that you havent yet tried!

Im confident in my ability to host 5 to 10k sites on my current plan, and if it gets to the stage where I need to add more b/w then I will. In the meantime Im happy giving it away, and I see no need to rethink my business plan.

Im going to try and leave this now as its obvious that you guys are just going to continue with the snipes, why not just wait and see how things pan out in 6 or 12 months.

I'll certainly still be around.

Well you haven't explained yourself yet, and trying it for a week or two doesn't give us any idea of the payback you will expect in the near future.

Given that your customers are likely to be trading with us and requesting link exchanges, then I would have thought it would be best to set our minds at rest.

One reason hosting companies offer free hosting for a limited period is to attract new clients, and they expect to make a profit from the clients when they start paying after the free period. All we are asking is how you are going to collect payment when the honeymoon is over. The last thing we want to find out is that you are working for Zango or a similar organisation.

a quick review ... i signed up nice and easy and decided to put up a quick splog (as i'm sure most people here will) i set up the database easily enough but i found the script auto-install a bugger to use and ended up having to fix it via ftp, i was also disappointed to find that the version of WP available was a very old one and that there are restrictions on what types of files i can upload which prevented me from installing WP-Autoblog but i now have another new splog complete with lots of link backs to my own sites for the spiders to find
obviouly, its much too early to say how the hosting will hold up to traffic but so far so good really
the site is at http://rogue.hostedwith.us/ and as you can see, so far there is only a tiny host advert at the very bottom.

are we allowed more than one account?

I guess it's too early to try to find out how he makes money from the hosting.

I would watch out for this guy, Martin Macdonald has already had 3 sites he owns shut down for violations of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. I have found information that he was selling scripts that he did not have permission to sell and once he was caught he passed the buck and the people who purchased the scripts from him were not refunded. It was at his turnkeyfacebookapps.com a simple search of the name will back up the info. He also owned a poker site called costadelpoker.com which the poker network he was on pulled the plug on the site because he runs a poker forum that steals events off of other poker forums. Hostgator did pull the plug on his site, he has now moved his poker forum to an overseas network. He also owns a few domain hosting sites one that is for free he informed members who registered there would be no banners on their sites that information was false. He also lied in a previous auction about his sites stats check it out for yourself. "1,331+ websites hosted, active webmaster forum, 50,000 backlinks" "Seems that there are less than 384 active users and not 1,331+ websites. Is this accurate? This info is according to myIPneighbors.com hostedwith.us has the IP address: 67.228.39.240 We found 384 other sites hosted on the IP address 67.228.39.240"
His site mogmedia.net is another joke website design using a standard template. The scripts on his site I would check to see if he has permission to use them.

Updated 4 sites:
POKER AFFILIATE SITE - Incredible Opportunity!!

He has also sold a site on site point that had logos and images for the WSOP.

The new owner of the site is considering going after him,
