Wanted: NP members with 500+ posts to review free hosting service

Hi guys and gals!

as you can see this is my post #1 here at the forums, and as such I certainly dont want to start spamming links everywhere.

On the flipside Im registered here because I would like to invite you to use our free hosting services, which leaves me in a bit of a quandry!

ANYWAY - I reckon the best way to do this would be to send a link to 3 maybe 4 regulars here (with over 500 posts) so that they can review my service, then if THEY think that its worth other webmasters using, then I will publish the URL of my site.

I know this seems a bit of a contrived process, but I would really rather not be seen as a "one post spammer", as I detest those

SO ANYWAY, if a few members with 500+ posts would kindly post their interest in trying out the service by posting here, I will PM them the link. If THEY then decide its good enough I'll stick a thread up offering it to all.

Thanks again for reading, I know I can go on a bit at times, and I look forward to being a productive member of this forum!

thanks!!!

MOGGY

What happens with the 404 traffic and what kind of panel do we have, is it WP compatible?

More info would be nice.

Hi there!

re. your enquiries:

1) Scripts are allowed, we have 20+ pre installed scripts including WP and phpBB and lots of other common ones.

2) .htaccess is allowed, on a case by case basis. basically you just have to open a support ticket explaining what you need it for, our team will then review the script in your hosting and allow access.

3) we have subdomains yes, OR you can use your own domain name, either way no problems!!

4) how do we intend on profiting - well, you can remove the tiny text link at the bottom of each page for a small fee ($1.45 p/m) but to be honest, I'd rather just have the link back...

... fact of the matter is that I personally host about 75 gaming related websites, and I moved all of my other hosting to one big VPS... Ive now got shedloads more storage and b/w than I need so Im branching out.

Out of our first 200 users though 3 have paid to have the links removed for 6 months and that basically reduces my server bills even further for me.

hope this answers your questions, Im going to answer the other posts then PM you all the link to add your comments as well.

thanks!

We contact you when you are 80% used for the month, but when you see our limits I think you'll agree that this is very unlikely!!!

By default 404 traffic comes back to my homepage, but I could look at this for you.

our control panel is WP compatible, infact it comes preinstalled.

Also you can have up to 10 mySql databases per account as well.

Believe me ... 500 posts is no mile marker here... the nickel whores can be found in every corner here.

Secondly, good hosting is dirt cheap nowadays and I would recommend against it to anyone, newbie or weathered.

Thirdly,
Yes, you are spamming the forum.... we have an announcement and opportunity forum.

I'm always interested in ways to get domains onto different hosts, but I like to see how the hosting payment is made - there is no such thing as a free host. With someone like Kinghost it's all up front, and you can see where you are. Allowing scripts is a disadvantage for me as well because I'm a cynic. If you take away the 404 traffic and the banners, and there is no geo-redirection, then I don't see how your service can be commercially viable. I don't buy the "I'm a nice guy with lots of spare capacity" line that is often used either.

Well nothing in world is free and I really wonder whats the catch...

Personally, I would never use free hosting, when hosting is so ridiculously cheap nowadays, one sale basically pays for 2 months of average virtual hosting...

Thanks!!

that is the kind of response I am looking for, the hosting we offer is aimed at new webmasters, although it is pretty full functioned for seasoned pro's.

Cheers!

And I thought that people in this forum would be open to looking at it first, before shooting it down in flames!!

I have posted a link now in this thread:

Could you let me know how allowing scripts is a disadvantage? Im not sure I follow you there?

thanks!

Yep, 500 posts can be reached quite quickly and easily, but I chose that number as it displays that the poster will still be around in a week to review the service.

What makes you think that because this is free it aint good? I think its good otherwise I wouldnt be offering it.

Thirdly, I am now "spamming" as you put it here: http://www.netpond.com/showthread.php?t=123467

------------------------------------

C'mon this hosting is good enough for users of any other forum, be it paid or free our hosting is bloody quick and well featured.

If you are too set in your current hosting package to have an open mind thats fine, but why unfairly prejudice against a service you dont know?

MOG.

Im not in any way against this thinking!

another advantage of free hosting is that you can use it to testdrive ideas before commiting to them financially.

Well I'm quite happy to use freehosts, and In fact I have used several. I am also aware that their hosting isn't free, but has to be paid for in some way, and you haven't explained how you will cover your costs and make a profit. I wouldn't want to review your site now, and find out that you have a 5% skim, or you are geo-redirecting or installing trojans in 3 months time.

Using scripts creates vulnerabilities, and can also cause server overloads. This is especially relevant when one considers that the primary use of freehosting is for traffic pumps.

I'm not shooting you down in flames, I'd just like you to explain how you expect to make a profit. Saying that you require a text link that is solely to recruit more customers who won't be paying anything isn't even going to pay your coffee bill.
