how many directories

Genrally, how many directories do you usually add your blog to?

I've seen some blogs that add about 8, whereas others I've come across add about 40

It depends on which for which purposes you want to use blog directories. If you want it for SEO then you should submit to a couple more then 8, but recently search engines have downgraded the simple a-b link trade, so you should do a a-b-c trade if you are in it for the SEO.

When you submit for traffic then you first have to figure out which directories bring the best traffic. Please note that when a blog directories sorts blogs on incoming hits you can influence the amount of traffic you receive by placing links to these blog directories on strategic places on your blog.

Newbies tend to submit to all blog directories in the world and tend to find out that that wasn't very smart, but it is a good way to see which directories are good.

I would say: 20 for normal blogs, but this is just a guess cause the number depends on many factors, for example: submit for seo or traffic, the amount outgoing links, and so on.

I just built a new blog and I'm only submitting to about 25-30 directories that I know send traffic. More than that just clutters up the page.
