Blog Linking Protocol

Just of late I have logged into WP to find my blog linked in some very diverse places. These people have placed hardlinks to my blog. For the most part I have been more than happy to reciprocate also and place their link up though I may have never heard of them or seen their site prior to this, I check the site and yada yada yada if it is not too outrageous I place a link happily. However I am also finding it linked in some other languages. I don't know what they are saying and in the subject matter on which I write knowing that is crucial. They could be saying spank your dog in the bathtub while masturbating to reruns of I Love Lucy for all I know. Anyone know what the protocol on this is?

they are some sort of spamming blogs.... they regullary take mine post and give me back link.... and i still don't know wheather they are good or bad...

a couple of times, I've used language translator sites to at least get an idea what they were saying, and for the most part it was what people were saying in English.

I check everything like this even closer than I do trade partners to my real blogs. If I like what I see, or more importantly, if I think my surfers will like what they see, I'll link to it. Otherwise, I won't. Since something like 97% of my surfers are from English speaking countries, I definately don't even bother evaluating a link if the site is not in English.

Also, I won't link back to forums....just because some poster happened to run across my site and wanted to share it with his friends, doesn't mean I want to give the site a link.

Basicly, for an unsolicited link I feel no pressure or requirement exists to place a link on my site. But hey, if they are sending traffic and they have a quality site, it doesn't hurt.

It's a natural one way incoming link -- gold! Don't tarnish it by linking back! Unless they ask, but that's a different thing entirely.
