What converts best?

1. thumb linked to tour
2. thumb linked to big picture and sells text below linking to tour
or
3. thumb with no link (just thumb) and sells text below linking to tour

Personally I am working on thumb to free hosted gallery 2-3 times a week and mix it in now and then with thumb to main tour.

I don't link the pic to anything and add links to the sponsor in the text of my blog post. Where possible I will link to the tour page that would correspond to the pic.

if you link thumb(as in thumb of some hot chick not the tour) to tour then it is considered as a blink link for some. I usually link thumb to bigger picture/clip and have links everywhere else. I'm probably going to try to start linking to FHG's/FHF's now though because it doesn't seem to matter at all and my bandwidth consumption is increasing extremely fast.

What about links in the text? Presuming the text is accurate and interesting you'll get less clicks, but should be a better conversion ratio. e.g. it's "presell".

I totally agree. Thumbs blind linked to a tour is cheating and i don't believe that it is gonna pay on a long term. Especially when it comes to blogs, i think that treating a user fairly gives you more chances to keep him coming back to read your blog and to personally choose to visit your tour and eventually sign up, at some point. Yes, some users can click on a thumbnail, being redirected to yout tour and sign up immediately, but the big majority will be pissed, they will skip the tour and never come back. Show them love and you will have your deserved big orgasm. Rape them and chances are that you will just come quick, in the best scenario....more likely, you will end up wanking/fingering yourself with useless traffic.
