I allow surfers to comment. it's a good thing to know what they think about your site.

i think it's good for seo, but not spamming, so i'm using on my WP blogs plugin for spam comments, and other comments i'm approving manually.

Is it good? Does it stop 99% of spam? Because i used to get only spam comments, so there was no other choice just to stop accepting comments...

Well, for those of you that submit to social bookmarking sites it is a courtesy that you really should allow, them to have a pingback. Meaning you took a link from them and they are pinging back to their directory. Sort of a mini link exchange. All of my blogs require admin approval to get a comment in but I do approve every single one from the social bookmarking sites that list me even the ones that don't send much traffic.

Nope, on most of my blogs I'm not letting them to comment... too many spam comments so it's better to turn it off imo...

He doesn't put a comment in he puts a pingback. That is a link that shows where he listed your site on his bookmark site.
Courtesy is good Fresh if you are to have a name in this business make it good, and make it honest. If someone provides you a link why in god's name would you not permit a pingback?

Here is an example of a pingback on one of my blog/splogs. You can see it is not really detrimental since it is a synopsis of what I put there. It does however provide something for them in SE and linkage.

yes, it's spam all the time, sometimes you get normal comment, and that's under 1%, but you can make fake comments too.

LOL they have not found you yet, but they will. I turn off the email me option so I dont get bothered with emails saying so and so is spamming you.

It also depends on how many blogs you run, if you have 100+ it must be a bitch to moderate the comments on all of them.

At last count I have only 40 blogs and even those rss fed I hand post to on a regular basis. When I log in I discard the spam and keep the honest pingbacks. I do not submit things written by other people to social bookmarking sites so it is really not a big deal. Truth is the only comments I permit are those from the social bookmark sites anyway

I allow pings on my posts as it has not been as large a problem as the comment spam. I'm not sure about it's usefullness yet.

Okay...the advent of the creeping monster called supermarkets rid this country of the cuddly old lady proferring her goods and chatting about Mrs Jones' operation...

You kinda felt all warm and fuzzy inside - stayed a little longer and maybe spent a tad more...

Now you walk into a flashy automated hell manned my Stepford Wives and husbands who literally trick and drag every last penny from your vice-like grip..."have you got a clubcard" is about all you get in the way of human contact - as in that cute long forgotten medium called conversation...

My blogs get few decent comments - but a lot of spam...the few choice comments I have had have been either the sad guy talking directly to the model I'm featuring - the dude saying "nice tits" - the guy saying "wanna trade" - the surfer saying "yeah Met Models is hot but have you checked out a little known site called yadayada" - sponsors ad depts asking for the cost of a banner on the blog etc etc...

All the spam is filtered and with Akismet you set the words you want blocking...

My point..?

Human contact can only be good - it allegedly makes people feel at ease on your site - and people at ease tend to be more trusting...

Just my take on it - but hey what the fook do I know :hih:
