Penalized for excessive pinging?
Do search engines penalize for excessive pinging (i.e., 60x in an hour)? I am moving one of my blogs to its own domain using WP and am wondering if removing the blog pinging services under "Writing Options>Update Services" would enable me to add 60 posts at once without potential penalization from the SEs.

I don't think search engines like google.com or yahoo.com pay attention to pinging.
Do you maybe mean technorati and the google blog search? Try taking a look at your wordpress ping list, which services are in that list? __________________

Pinging and multiple posts
Hi Twan
Thanks so much for responding to my post!I have a mainstream (blogspot) blog with a lot of unique (text) content and incoming one way links from related sites, but it is not showing up in any of the search engines, which is why I want to move it to its own domain. When I type in the URL at various SE's, it doesn't appear to be listed with any of them. When I first launched the site, I added about 50 posts at once, and I was worried that perhaps my blog was penalized as a result of "excessive pinging". My adult WP blogs on their own domains usually get listed in the SE's pretty quickly, as do my thumblogger blogs, and I start getting hits from the SE's to my posts within the first week or two. I added my RSS feed at Yahoo about a week ago, and manually pinged various blog pinging services. I also posted the link in my sig at various keyword related forums. The blog is PR0 right now at Google. Maybe blogs hosted with blogger take longer to get indexed? When I move my blog, I want to make sure that it won't be penalized for adding so many posts at one time. But if, as you said, Google and Yahoo don't penalize blogs for this reason, I don't need to worry about this Thank you so much for clarifying this issue! |

Yes remove the blog pinging service till your blog is completely set up.
And install Smart Update Pinger plugin if you use Wordpress to ping. Simon |

Hmm, blogger.com blogs are in general quite fast indexed by google. But things do change, so i'm not 100% sure.
I wouldn't worry about being blocked by google for adding to many blog posts at once, but other services like technorati might block you. noproblem posted a nice plugin to solve this problem. __________________
