Gallery Scraper Apostrophes In Descriptions

When I have an apostrophe in my long descriptions in gallery scraper it seems to mess up the feed. I get an error about an illegal character or something. Anyone else have this problem? And before you tell me to contact kaktusan directly, I put this here so that everyone can benefit from the answer. I'll email this thread to kaktusan. I'm just wondering if it's a setting I missed or a bug in the script.

Anyway, I'm off till monday, hope there's an answer here when I get back

actually it seems a lot of scripts have that issue I am told that you can try and put a \ before the apostrophe and it sometimes works

well, such problem regularly appears when the apostrophes are typed with some weird characters encoding, and that happens almost in all scripts. Generally you should not have problems with any of the apostrophes symbols, they are treated well in GS. Just when the encoding gets wrong it happens like that. Tell me do you copy the long descr from somewhere or you type it by yourself?

MS word I hear makes a horrid mess of apostrophes ....when I use them they are coming from the sponsor descript off galleries or cut and paste from a .txt file both give me errors.

If you use OpenOffice.org Writer to write before pasting it in (so you can grammar and spell check), you can go to Tools => AutoCorrect, then choose the Custom Quotes tab, and uncheck the 'Replace' boxes for single and double quotes. I ran into that with a weird unicode issue. I don't think PHP handles that well.

yep, the problem is exactly from those new apostrophe symbols and they most times get messed up by MS Word and Excel. And yes, currently php still can't handle them properly. I made myself some replace functions to look for them and turn them to regular ones, but always some can't get caught..

Yes I copy from text files. I guess that would be the problem. Thanks for the answer kaktusan.

By the way, I really like the script. Best $67 I've ever spent.
