Wordpress 2.2.2 ping

Hello again all,

I'm trying to locate answers on how WP 2.2.2 pings. As the 2.* versions include wp-cron & am wondering if this helps eliminate over pinging?

I'll put it this way, I'm looking to schedule bulk posts & would really enjoy pinging services only when the post goes live (once a day). Rather than the old WP way of pinging upon editing posts, and when writing posts (either published or pre scheduled).

The support board seems to be really a mess for this as there used to be a plugin supported called wp-cron (no longer in development) which would ping correctly & doing searches for WP's in-house wp-cron is a mess & docs do not address it......

I've searched here & did see http://daven.se/usefulstuff/wordpress-plugins.html But to me that's not a very "smart" pinger if it can't/won't ping future posts.

Anyone know if WP 2.2.2 fixes the over pinging? If it's safe to make 90 posts pre-scheduled one day & it'll ping once a day for 90 days when the posts go live? Or know of a good plugin that'll do it?

Just ignore me from now on : P I did find this too http://betamode.de/wp-pingfix/#en which looked really nice too, but they too state that it is obsolete for 2.1.x versions of WP
