Help I am drowning

I have a site I didnt realize that comments was turned on, there is over 5000 comments in the que I can't delete them because it locks my browser, I can't find where they are stored in wordpress.. what file holds them, so I can delete them..

turn on the extended comments plugin, and then turn off the comments....(but this is only if u want no more comments as well.)

I just changed the comments file name to block them altogether. Just switching off the comments won't help.

The comments are stored in the database, not in a file, so you need to access the db directly and delete them from there, or install the plug-in mentioned by mm107.

SB is you want to delete the comments maybe the Wordpress Suicide Plugin can help you out, install it in your plugin folder then activate it and then go to manage>>>suicide en select only wp_comments and then delete.

I hope it works also with comments in cue, i use it to clean out old blogs with lots a postings, good luck.

sleazybear, just go to your phpmyadmin, and select your database, after selction you can see a list of tables below the select area. Click "wp_comments", after that check the right side, you can see some tabs on the top, click the "Browse tab", now you can see the comments below the tabs with radio buttons, select the comments you want to delete in radio buttons, and check bottom of the list you can see a Delete Link "X" Marked. Click that link and delete the comments.

Did you checked the mass edit option in the comments area of your wp-admin?

If you cant solve the problem then i can do it for you if you need.

TRUNCATE table wp_comments;

run that mysql query in your wordpress database in phpmyadmin. and don't forget to disable comments in the wp admin..

I had the same problem with one of my WP blogs until I turned comments off.

yep the best way is thru your db like kaktus & jalika said. If you dont want to do it like that go with dirtyharry's plugin.

If you dont mind reviewing all comments when 1 in 1000 is a legitimate comment and not spam then yeah

Yeah it effects your database and your HD space on your server.

I don't regularly read mainstream blogs and almost never read adult ones, but I notice that there are some blogs with geniune comments and there are blogs with zero comments. Sometimes I will spend more time reading the comments than the actual post, same with youtube comments, or slashdot. The comments support the post by engaging the user with other users opinions and all of us like to compare our opinions with the rest of the world even if the comments are about a ridiculous subject - you can see this on messageboards everywhere; if there are no comments, however, then the visitor will not be staying very long.

Though how user contribution to one's blog in the form of geniune comments translates to sales I am not sure.
