How to make my directories find out about newer posts

Hi there,

As you might already now I launched a blogs submitter with 10 dirs - 1blogsubmitter.

I want to add some more dirs to that, and I am thinking to add a feature so that blogs that have newer posts pop up first. As far as I know there are 2 options:

1) my script would read the feed, get the latest date (and probably the post's text) and so the blog would be on first page again.. By the way, would you like that the link would show up with standard description, or with the new post text, or some part of it? For my dir with post text would be better I guess..

2) there is something about pinging, but i don't really know how it works. It seems like bloggers use some script to send the message and my software should listen to it and store someway.. Would this option be hard to embed if I want to write it myself?

Anyway, some advice would be helpful where to move further with my service

I'd like to see a feature where new posts are added and made visible on the front pages if you can manage it. I think this makes blog directories more attractive to webmasters, as at least they know their blogs have a chance of being seen by surfers, rather than buried in the directory. It also probably attracts surfers back to the site if it updates regular.

I'd have it display the titles of the posts, so it's something fresh and enticing.

No idea about the technical stuff to do with the pinging side of things.
