Decent Blog Post

What would everyone say is a decent number of words for a blog post and frequency? Someone told me that I should be posting at least a 500 word blog post 5 times a week. For those people who have several and even a hundred or so handwritten blogs, how do you keep that up?

Some folks would disagree with you on that. Your results may vary.
Many people find that a 100-150 word blog post would suffice, and one very successful blogger here posts 20-25 word posts 2-3 times a week. Others post a 500-800 word post weekly or bi-weekly.
I would try going the 150 word route and update at what ever frequency works for you.

It varies. I think it's best to try different amounts on different blogs

for me it depends on the niche, certain niches the reader likes to know the background, story, etc. so just type away and let it flow.

I have an 'ex girlfriends' blog that has 200-300 words per text, but then another teen blog with only 60-70 words....so just flow!

Personally I don't concentrate on the word count as much as saying what I feel needs to be said to draw sales. Keeping that in mind, I would always say less is more, meaning skip the 500 word posts and try to go around 100 to 200. Most surfers want to look at the pics, few will read the text, and even a smaller percentage will read the entire thing if it is 500 words long. Plus, it makes for longer posts and more difficult for people to find your next post, losing you potential customers

When you run out of things to say, talk about the weather. If you talk about the weather two days in a row, you need to take a break. I try to post 5 sentences and go from there.

When I began blogging I was simply a babeblogger - as in pretty nude pic linked to a gallery and babes/site name clickable...

Yahoo loved me Google never put me higher than page 10 plus lol...

A few weeks reading the stuff here on the forum (2005 - when we were a tiny little outpost lol) and I increased blog posts to between 100 and 250 - Google now likes me and strangley yahoo has dropped me down the list a bit...

Could be a lot more factors than amount of words obviously...

However - Pam made an interesting point (doesn't she always ) a while back when she ran some kind of poll or feedback with her visitors - none seemed to bother with the text at all!!!

So you have to find a nice balance between the spiders and the surfers...a balance that is that works for you - trial and error with say a few blogs each with different and varying amounts of text...

To be honest I reckon 500 words plus 5 times per week is overkill - if ya writing is crisp with a few natural keywords sprinkled about - a couple of hundred should be more than enough...

As an aside my gf has just started writing erotic stories...pretty good too lol...

I popped one onto a MILF blog of mine a couple of days ago that I rarely went over 100 word blog entries...

I'll be interested to see (1) how it's received by the surfers and (2) if it pushes the blog up the serps at all...

It's 1500 words and very risque God love her...

And I want to know who the young builder in the story is - dirty fucker

Don't post more than once a week, its way better to run several blogs and update them weekly than have 1 blog and update it twice a day with lengthy posts.

As for words, shoot for around 100-250 if posting weekly. Of course more is better, but not really necessary. Rather trade links more with quality resources.

500, this is the first time i have seen this mentioned

previous threads on this issue never really mentioned more than about 60 words max 70 or 80

also most said once a week updates after a blog is established but more often in the early stages

who has time for 500 word posts, sheesh u could update 10 blogs with that with 10 posts of 50 words

google might like more lengthy posts but there has to be a balance somewhere

now one sentance posts obviously are not recommended but 500 words my god thats overkill
