Does anyone really need paid blog themes?

Ive been debating on wether to continue making wordpress themes or not since theirs so many free ones out there.

I shouldve asked this on my old post but i cant find it so ill ask here.

Do adult bloggers bother paying for a custom template or prefer finding a free one? I have alot of nice templates i want to sell ($25 a peice) but im also considering just setting up a page giving them away for free.

I would definately pay for a nice well seo'd theme.

would you prefer a more "graphic/flashy" theme or one thats more content based (minimal graphics) type theme.. or maybe a mix of both?

I prefer the free ones for my budget but I think if I had the money $25 for a decent theme isn't asking too much.

Most of the free themese I tweak on my own for colors etc. So I can't say for sure that I'd ever buy one.

Paying $25 for one is no problem, if WP installation is included it's really nice. When I have a good domain and really want to do a little more exclusive blog, paying $150 for a custom theme is ok too

Are you saying that uniques are a good or bad investment AP?

I sure would pay for a minimal SE optimized theme with a nice header. CSS + fully xhtml or html4 validated ofcourse. It should also be build so that its easy to change the color scheme.

I never understood the whole css thing personally, loads times are about the same due to all the porn content, so I never cared to search out css only themes

I like paying for unique themes. Often I'll have to download a free theme, then have my designer make up a header for me, and then I try to tinker with the CSS file to change colors, but (shhh!) I'm not that good with CSS!

For quality work, price doesn't matter. From what I read on most forums, there is a huge need for quality designers of wordpress themes.

SEO and flash don't work but good seo theme with flashy elements is good product!

I've spent years using "free themes" just changing the header...

However I'm enjoying buying limited edition ones at the moment - so I'm certainly in the market for decent paid themes

Hit the nail on the head! I see to many themes for sale that look great but are SEO suicide. For those not after SERPs they're a great deal, but for those working the SEs totally different story.

I'd pay a small amount for a SEO built adult theme (I am yet to find one), being sold to multiple people (thus price point lower). . .

and by SEO built I mean the following:
someone on here mentioned clean semantic code, but I am also talking about other things like proper use of header tags, importance of post titles on post pages, importance of title on main page and category pages, logical order of the code, minimizing white space, code validation, etc.

Instead I do what others here mentioned and create a custom header to a mainstream seo theme.

At the end of the day a great looking blog with no traffic will always sell worse than a terrible looking blog with optimized traffic, hands down.

So if anyone is selling what i just posted then contact me. I'm interested.

Free themes and changing the headers is good. I don't mind paying for a theme and getting a header I want and the theme in the colours I want. Some places charge silly amounts for a custom theme.

yea ive seen themes in the $100's that can literally be made in like 2 hours, shame

What I don't get is why don't theme designers design some great themes and rather than charge loads of money, they could charge say $20 to get a header for any of their themes and the theme in a colour of their choice, it isn't hard to create one theme in 30 colours. Then all the designer is doing is creating a header really.

Being a complete novice to SEO as far as WP templates is there really that much of a difference? I have the all in one SEO pack on all my blogs and put it to use but is there really more benefits available to someone who knows what they're doing when it comes to this stuff?
