Help with wordpress MU

I am pretty tech savvy but am having a problem installing worpress MU on my server. Can anyone help me or do this for me? Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is frustrating me! Thanks!

Do you have a wildcard set on your domain? because if you have the installation is pretty strait forward.

but when i use backlink checker

to check my backlinks

there is non come from WordPress

any thoughts?

As Dutch Harry said you may have to get your host to activate Wildcard DNS.

I'm just guessing that this is the issue you need help with. If not let us know and we'll try to help.

I have had issues with the database first. so they fixed that, now I am not sure what I need to do. i am getting this error message. I will ask my host to enable wildcard for me that may be the problem.

No WPMU site defined on this host. If you are the owner of this site, please check Debugging WPMU for further assistance.

I am going to try out b2evo actually to see if it will work for what I need it for. I am trying to figure out how to set it so that everyone has thier own blog but it may just end up being one of those group post type things. Sighs

I have installed WPMU before but my memory is a bit hazy on details, it was last year. Hopefully, one of the WPMU gurus can help.

When I installed Wordpress MU on my first ever domain I had issues. My host had not enabled Wildcard DNS, once they had enabled that, I had to delete my Wordpress MU and reinstall it and then follow the installation instructions again and it worked fine.

You need to also make sure when installing you tick the right box for subdomains or folders.

I seem to recall a post where you posted about using hostgator? If that is your hosting - that is your problem...

I got them to turn on wildcard. I will go in and try to reinstall it yet again. However when I try it always says there is a database connection issues. Its getting rather annoying but I will figure it out. Thanks guys!

Good luck with Hostgator - but I dont think you will make it work - there are too many others obstacles and purposely they wont make it work.

I use phatservers and the first WPMU I did, I struggled for 30 minutes, emailed with them three times and then for ease they just installed it all for me.

So far I am still having problems but I asked if they could install it for me. I am keeping my fingers crossed, I would really like to use wordpress MU as I am familiar with wordpress. They have been really helpfull with what I have needed in the past. Redhat I sent you an instant message via the forum~

Ask for your support. In my case that was the problem, they had to rewrite something in the webserver's config file. Maybe you should ask them.

Your host should install this for you because changes that needs to be done can't be done with regular user access. It's really a 10 minute job.

They told me they can't do it. Its outside of thier scope of support and to contact the support people at wordpress...

Because I cannot afford phatservers and the content I need to have uploaded and the fact that I am going to be doing video podcasts, podcasts, and more I am going to need more space then I can afford with them.
