Wordpress themes

please recommend some places to download some nice simple WP themes where the person offering the downloads HAS NOT attached some base64 code in the footer!

you used to be able to get WP themes so easily but now you really have to check them well, in the last hour i've downloaded over 30 themes and deleted 2/3rds because of hidden code.
bloody annoying.

The themes were set up for mainstream marketing (so they can be set up for adsense etc), but they work well with adult too.

Only thing is, the guy has had a spot of bother lately getting ranked and it could be because of these themes and having the link to his site in the footer of every one, so I reckon he would appreciate a nofollow at least on that link. But that is just my guess.

The most recent one I've used is here. I like it a lot so far. You'll have to do a little modification on some of the images and links but I think it looks great. I used it at Gym Slutz and it gives it a really nice clean look I think.

Well I'm not sure if these have encryped code in them or not so will just put the link up just in case. At any rate I've found a good many good ones here added Best Wordpress Themes. - PAGE 1 Hope this helps you out.

I found a cracking theme the other day, it had code in the footer but I thought lets have a go and put up with the code.... Few hours later there was a link in blogroll I did not recognise, deleted it... Next day same link appeared again and I can only assume it was the code doing this, theme binned as you can imagine and lesson learned.

Yes but at least one of those free themes has a html link in the header which shows up in the search bar, if you don't delete it.
I removed the header links in mine and the search bar.
That seemed to do the trick.

Its pretty easy to strip the Encoded part out.

All you have to do once you have uploaded and activated the theme is open it in a window and then look at the source code.

Go to your Wordpress admin page and go to theme editor.

Open index.php and look what the bottom line is.

Then go to page source and copy everything that is below the the bottom line you saw.

Open footer.php and paste. You can now freely edit the footer.

If by any chance the last line is <get Sidebar.php> then you will have to open sidebar.php and see what the bottom line there is before copy and paste from page source into footer.

It sounds complicated but you can get each one done in under a minute.

That works 75% of the time there's another work around for the themes with "nasty footers" with that Base 64 code in them...

Better still just use the awesome Mandigo theme - loads of features and even I can make if work...

Mandigo is a great looking theme but man, I could take a lifetime setting it up and would still end up trying to figure out how to go in and edit a bunch of shit myself in the code as I've really gotten into doing some wierd shit on my themes.

True, but I would much rather put a decent link to them in the footer, rather than know that nearly every time someone put anything in that search box they were being taken to their sponsor rather than mine.
That seems like one hell of a skim for a blog theme which in the first place was made using one of those 'free wordpress themes generators'.

There is also the point that whoever made that theme was hoping that people didn't notice that link in the header was there. Which I don't think is really what the idea of 'open source' is all about.

Seems the only way around this is to make the themes yourself using those free generators (which I do now most of the time).
