Google Wants Us To Update Our Wordpress Blogs?

Reading the post at this link, it appears that Google is going to inform webmasters about security vulnerabilities in their old Wordpress installations.

The poster thinks this could lead to Google de-indexing blogs with outdated versions of Wordpress.

Now this may all be scaremongering (and at the moment it is), but I find it just one more annoyance with Wordpress. Not only does it always need updating, but now not updating may eventually lead to lost sales.

Anyone else feel that Wordpress is just getting too damn big and we are all relying on it far too much?

Think I will just make more Blogs Organizer blogs from now on!

Personally, it really doesn't mind me all that much because I usually update my blogs to the latest version of Wordpress under a week or two after it's release.

Yes that reads better than before the edit

I just wish they would spend a little longer working on the 'brand new' updates, rather than rushing them out as if they are in a race (with moveable type?), because at the moment there always has to be another 'update of an update' within weeks (sometimes days) of the previous one.

But as I said, it seems like Wordpress is going for the monopoly on self-hosted blogging and I don't like monopolies of any kind.

You can always deactivate the automated wp-info integration (in header.php) by putting

remove_action('wp_head', 'wp_generator');

in your functions.php.

Definitely tempted to convert a few of my wp sites to plain old html - not all mind, but some definitely have suffered from the "use wordpress for everything" mentality I've fallen for
