Does anyone have a CSS guide?

I'm completely new to blogging, have to do a ton of research before I can play with my income....say does anyone have a simple guide to editing the CSS as I know jack shit about it. Would love to edit the template to add some banners, text and on mainstream sites google adsense and that type of stuff....anyone?

the css in the default wp template is heavy advanced css.
to get you started have a look at this quick guide:
http://www.htmlhelp.com/reference/cs...-tutorial.html

you can use css to just define your links and texts, but you can also build your whole site with css. positioning, placements etc. like it´s in wordpress.
here are the most important definitions:
http://www.htmlhelp.com/reference/css/properties.html
get it step by step and play around with all settings!
when it comes to div layers it´s hard work to get a site looking equal in every browser...

Also have a look at http://www.w3.org/Style/CSS/.

While you are there, check out XML, XSLT and XQUERY, because that is where we are going next.

This site was one of the most helpful to me when I was new to css: http://www.tizag.com/cssT/

It has most of the basics to get started and generally explains things quite well for a css newbie. Actually, looking over it again it's good all the way up to things like float, position, layers, id's and things like that - so it should take your through more than just the basic steps.

http://www.w3schools.com/css/default.asp is pretty good as well, although not quite as succesful at explaining things to a css newbie in my opinion. Good reference for all css tags though, and lots of examples.

Could I be boring and suggest you could go to the library? I picked up html and css books from the library and learned it that way, as well as using other sites.

I've always loved reading books - whether fiction or non-fiction, but personally I've always felt that with practical computer topics where you're often best off trying out examples and exercises as you get to them, it's a lot quicker to change to another browser window and click a link (or type something in a search field if necessary) rather than trying to manage flipping through a book while maybe sitting in a more or less awkward position reading - as well as wasting time moving your hands to and from the keyboard.

Efficiency first when it comes to computer work in my opinion .

I learned CSS by using dreamweaver. Dreamweaver displays a nice very clear and understandable tree of the css tags you use on a site. For example you can change the style of a border just by clicking. It's more fun and you learn fast when you immediately see the effect of your changes.

When your familair with the css names (border, style, width, font-size, color) you can take a look at the codes css use. Be sure to that you are familair with the basics before looking at the more advanced css tags like float.

I recommend to just start small, try to make a dotted red border arround a image, try to make a cool looking border arround some text, play with colors.
