About parking domains

why do people park domains, and is there any money to be made in doing so?

It's like PPC. I never really understood this parking thing.

It depends.

Adult domans are somewhat hard to park, because domain parking doesnt SEO- its strictly for people who type into the address bar.

Thus, the chances that someone decided to go to hotsexbabesnaked.info are very slim, making it a worthless domain to park, you are better off SEOing it.

However, domain parking on a 4 letter .com domain, or a domain likely to get a few hits a day (or tons of hits such as sex.com) can be somewhat profitable, because you park the domain until someone decides to buy it allowing you to flip domains.

My personal advice:

Domain parking it tough, and if you are going to do it, DONT DO ADULT DOMAIN PARKING. Its just not profitable. My recomendation is finding domains regarding HEALTH MORTGAGES, etc, because then you can register with a mainstream pay-per-click partner. Believe it or not, even with a few hits a day you can get .25 cents a click or so. It may not seem like much, but once you build a large domain portfolio, you receive residual income from parked domains, as well as instant profit from actively selling your domains, either on forums or on marketplaces, such as the one on Go Daddy.

Again, domain parking and flipping is a TOUGH, TOUGH industry...but hey, all it takes is one good domain and you can make TONS of money...a domain you get for 8.95$ can be worth 895$ to another webmaster or a company.

Hope this helped!!!!!

many PPC sponsors start off that high, then price themselves down, but I find that the industry standard is substantially lower...I wish I could get $5 a click on a parked domain but hey, if that is what you are pulling...congrats

Well, I have a lot of domains parked and do collect some money from them but if you want to park your site it would be wise to develop your site in some way before, put some content up and SEO it, after 6-8 weeks when SE picks it and you see constant traffic then park them and put the money in your pocket...

Parking is for people who have little time to develop the names, the money to buy many domains, the means to 'taste' many domains, or those who would rather work in bulk even if it means pulling a few cents a day you just buy more.

I really prefer to build up a landing page on my domains than parking them.

Yep...thats good too, although again, can often be hit-or-miss, and it sure does suck missing.

Well, if you think little more about that, all is kinda risky and hit-or-miss...

What about the Google sandbox? Do you think parking for six months is a good prelim to developing a site later when the name may be out of the sandbox?

If I was google I wouldn't start counting for sandbox till there was a developed site on it, I don't think they'll be rewarding domains that are parked.

How do you then explain the traffic those sites gets? For example, I have some domains that are parked and it sounds pretty impossible to me that someone would type that url in address bar and go directly to that site, especially tens or more people who came to that sites... so, I guess SE sends me some traffic

You should definitely work out where that traffic is coming from, you may be able to expand on it. Sure it's possible the SE's are sending you traffic but it should be very easy to filter parking pages from the results.

You could be getting traffic from old inbound links, type in's, or minor SE's and directories.

Wrong.

Parking services will seo your site for you, nothing major but thats why they ask for keywords etc that go with your site.

Domains parked with seo for "sexy" "teen" "anal", etc, dont SEO - I'm sure the host will submit keywords for it, but good luck getting search engine traffic.
