Let's talk about parking ...

I've traditionally had all my domains parked on Sedo and I earn a little each month but for over 100 domains listed, $8 a month isn't much. I realize a lot of that is dependent on traffic you yourself drive to the domains, but I got the thought in my head recently to take all my parked domains off Sedo and monetize them myself with a simple RSS fed niche-related news page, with Adsense or Adbrite/AVN along with Clickbank for the mainstream. I've only done this on a few so far, and I made sure to list them on Sedo as a website instead of domain since it now has content, so I can still put a Sedo tracker on the page.

I know Wordpress can be one click installed to do this job but there's a faster, easier way. There's a great little free script that takes a few minutes to upload (you specify keywords and it creates the RSS fed directories), and it's super simple to customize.

I have not done this with anything but mainstream as of yet.

Anyway, anybody else done this? What are your views on parking vs self RSS/monetized for domains you're selling? I'd love your thoughts on this!

I just now started doing this with my mainstream names, it's still in progress .. converting them all from parked to hosted and mini monetized so I don't have an update for you just yet but I would think I would be able to see what type of results I can get in a week here or two. That's kinda why I posted this. Want to get others thoughts on domain parking and just how much potential profit we lose from not taking a bit of time to monetize them ourselves, rather than pennies from Sedo or alike (I love Sedo btw .. they were very good to me with my last domain sale, so this isn't against them at all.)

Can someone give me some advice please.

With 100 domains the yearly cost is well under $1,000 in domains, hosting is not a real issue but let's say $500 all up. Content can be got from sponsors and written yourself.

So for arguments sake total cost will be $2,000.

At $25 a sign up this should take 80 sign ups a year to repay. 1.53 a week. So what's the problems?

Is it getting enough traffic or getting sign ups?

It's a question of time and effort. It's much easier to get a web presence with a Sedo sales page, and the text content will vary. You get paid by the click until you get out of the google sandbox and have time to develop the names. You get the chance to "flip" the name as well. Stats are all in one place as well, so you get a chance to review the traffic for minimal effort.

Almost certainly you will make more if you develop the name yourself, but only you can decide if that "more" is enough to cover the profits and rewards you could make by doing something else.

there are different places to park your domains at.. adult and non-adult...

they all have different page, they all have different payouts per click and they all have different blablabla... thats where this thread is about

This thread is about where to get the best results out of your domainnames...

It comes down to specialisation. Nobody (except Google and the like) does everything to maximise his domains/sites. For example, most webmasters use a registrar to register their names, and a hosting company to look after their servers. Many others pay for site designs and content amongst other things. If you are great at finding traffic names, and saleable names, then why should you mess around with all the problems associated with creating and maintaining sites. It's much easier to sell the clicks to paysite owners and others who are prepared to handle the problems like Zango.

I posted here because i thought you might have a genuine interest in domaining, but it seems that you haven't. I appreciate that I'm not the same as you - I'd prefer to make $2,000 per months for 30 minutes work per day instead of $5,000 per month for 14 hours work per day. Please note - both of those figures are examples, and neither is related to my actual income or work efforts.

I am thinking about going into the domain side more and more. But as I have hosting and content I will be parking them for a year and building the traffic before I sell them if I ever do. Of course I may be doing it all wrong as usual. LOL
