Another thread about brandability.

So we've seen comments about the impossibility of finding brandable .coms, and suggestions that we should use lesser names instead. I thought I'd spend a few minutes looking for name that I thought were brandable, and were available for reg fee. These are ones that I've found fairly easily. If anyone wants to buy one, then I may sell it for $250.

FuckAlley.com
GirlsInSpecs.com (not for sale - I'm keeping it)
TgirlsChat.com
FootSecrets.com (might keep this for mainstream)
FatButtPorn.com
FiftiesPorn.com

and I didn't bother with names like ScandalCams.com and FarmingGirls.com.

So do you think I've got the wrong idea about .coms and brandable names?

OK, so people say all the good names have gone, and i took the implication.

I know, and anybody with a bit of domain knowledge knows, that you can find reasonable names. So why do people (including sponsors) register crappy useless names? It's because of the unavailability myth that many put forward, and the fact that they haven't got the patience to look.

Sure, there are still good .com's left...it's just that finding them is much more difficult nowadays. But that doesn't mean you should completely ignore other TLDs (as you are suggesting). In fact, I would use that as grounds to divert MORE attention to other TLDs.

Where did you get this idea that ONLY keyworded .com names are worth buying?

The domain is important to a certain degree, but it becomes less important when your traffic comes from search engines and other websites (such as directories, trading partners, etc.). In addition, there is no reason why you can't get these types of sites (non-keyworded, non-.com) to start generating direct type-in traffic if the user likes the site, and the name is easy to remember.

I'm the guy who says domain names aren't important for SEO.

You were asking about brandability, and that's about customer recognition and recall. You can brand a common phrase - "for sale by owner" illustrated that, but if it isn't a common phrase, then it needs to be a single pronounceable word (or text string), or something catchy.

I believe that not having the .com reduces the value of your business, and if you are spending money branding, then you should be interested in the capital value of your asset.

You can brand any name you want as long as you put hard work into it, if you dont want to do that, get a great keyword adult domain for a nice price and do it that way ..

I have to agree. There are plenty of good QUALITY .coms left. I registered in the last month 13 alone. As part of my comeback tour. Id say ALL of them have marketibility and branding without a doubt.

I am a firm believer that 1, 2, 3 word/phrase keyword domains are an integral part of search engine optimization.

I'm not sure that applies any more, but they certainly help to get the surfer to click on your entry. However, whatever your reasons may be, the consensus seems to be that good key phrases or single words are the names to go for.

I agree but I don't see how that has any connection with "brandability".

The thread seemed to get knocked off topic slightly. Still, I guess it's easier to brand a well known phrase or saying though.
