Yes thats right i came across this link was just buying one myself, and it gives a years free domain name. .com .net .org .info and others i think.

You can always use this then transfer your domain before the free years up, as they will probably charge expensive on the next year so get out while you can.

Hope this helps someone, and yes you need a paypal, or credit card, just to verify but it does NOT cost.
And yes i guess you could use it multiple times on other emails or maybe wildcard emails, to get a lot of domains.

For the sake of $8, I wouldn't take up the offer, unless it's a disposable spam name of course. There have been so many horror stories about "free" names, that it just isn't worth the risk.

That's standard with all registrar's Nicky. Well there is a bit of ambiguity about the expiry part - is it the expiry of the registration, or the expiry of the 60 days? I don't think I'd chance it either way.
