New Domain Registration & Expiring Date - This Will Help You

When you are purchasing a new domain name for development, try and make a minimum 2 year registration or longer on it if your funds allow you to...

Why? you may ask... some se engine algorithms look at underage domains as possible avenues for deception, spam, and fraud which will hinder your chances of proper page ranking amongst the indexes...

Short term registered names are used for this purpose and this practice is not new or unknown.... as rule of thumb I register most initial purchases for 2 years.

That's the reason I keep 2 yrs as the default setting at LCC.

It just occurred to me I should add a tagline as to why the default is what it is.

I'm not sure about that, but may give it a try on the next domains I will buy!

I always have bought them for 1 year, and I get them at first place on Google for my desire keywords......so, unless I could rank better, I just do not see how that would change anything!

Thats a good question to which I wish that I had the answer to...
I would be a liar if I told of any specifics...

But, I can say there are algos in place in regards.

I've also had no problem getting #1 rankings with domains registered for one year. However, I see no harm in registering for 2 or more years.

If you get 1 rankings with 1year domain that does not mean that 2 year diomain would not help you to get better rankings for other keyphrases where you don't have 1st rankings.

In my minimal experience on this, while I do register domains for just a year to start and then up it if I decide to keep the domain, as far as the SERPS are concerned from what I have seen just with my own sites, is that yes you can get in the top 10 listings on google with a domain registered for a year, but the chances of staying in that high position seems to decrease the closer to the expiration date of the domain.

Just what I have watched with my own sites. Probably not something that is a hard and fast rule, but it does make sense to me for the reasons pointed out originally.

I always purchase my 'projects' 12 months in advance. I buy the domain name for 12 months, I plonk a quick index page up during the first 6 months and get at least 3-4 links going to it and then when I get around to developing the site I renew the domain for 2 years. I also ensure that I make no changes to the dns and registrars during the whole process.

May be this works maybe it doesn't, Not trying to step on your toes here Dave just putting in my 2 cents. Unless you have hands on experience with the algorithms then there is no way you can say if this is true. Many people on the net say they know how the algorithms work but truth is they don't and company's like Google keep them a guarded secret, they change them often. If any one did know exactly how the current algorithms were set up they would be a billionaire with in a few months because they could corner any market on the internet by taking every single top rank position in the search engines.

I think what really hinders peoples chances of proper page rank is having a poorly set up site that isn't search engine friendly, doesn't contain good content, uses poor key words and has no back links. Another thing that screws you up right from the start is buying a domain that has been de-indexed and banned by Google for pulling some some shady stuff like cloaking or something else.

Some times its not your fault at all you can do everything right and your competitors are using some shady tricks to give them higher ranking than
you.

For all i know you could be right Dave I personally register for 4 years unless i plan to resell the domain then its 1 and i only register for 4 because a year flies by way to fast. Seems like the older i get the faster time goes by.
