Good points Dave. If the reseller doesn't have a contingency plan in place there may be issues. It's not a matter of trust it's a matter of " what if's ". What if your Registrar/Reseller gets ran over by a bus tomorrow? What if your Reseller files bankruptcy?

If in doubt as to who your Registrar (or underlying Registrar) really is the Registry is usually the first stop to start gathering accurate information.

IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority) maintains a quite handy alphabetical list of Registries for gTLD's, ccTLD's, and IDN's. They have all the contact information plus a link or web address for absolute whois info. www.iana.org/domains/root/db/

Expired domains, Dropped Names, Lost Names, and Stolen Names are due to neglect and ignorance from the owner, or a new domain owner who does not realize the "value" of their respectively registered domain.

The consequences of losing vs knowledge of your "property" and its title are very important.

Websites are cool, but they do not run without a domain name behind them

That's what I love about GoDaddy, can get them by phone or email 24/7
and that goes for all their resellers via Wildwest..

That's true Toker, they have a big safety net designed for domain buyers.

I've been seeing posts that the GD/Reseller interface is difficult to use for transfers. That's true but there's a reason for all that. It's comprised of their layered security system, and there are lots of layers.

I guess a domain owners opinion on it might depend if you're transferring an $8 domain, an $80 domain, or an $800+ domain as to whether all those security layers are a pain in the ass or not.

That's what's great about having an Exec account, I just send the domain
to him and I get an email with a Code # and I add the Author # and it's transfered..
