Screwing with domain scammers

I know its childish but sometimes when i get bored ill go through forums like dnforum and check out the domains for sale. I use a program to scan the pages and strip out the names then check if they are registered. Lately i have been noticing quite a few people out there in the forums with very few posts trying to sell domains that are not even registered.

If i find the name interesting or useful ill go register it then send them a pm asking them how they plan on selling a domain i own. 95% of them never answer , a few have threatened to kill me or have some choice words.

If you go to buy a domain on one of the boards check to see if its registered first so you dont get hosed Hell you might get that domain for a lot cheaper than you ever thought

I can see your point but is it actually scamming? They are really acting as a middle man, maybe spending a few hours searching for a half decent domain name and then expecting some kind of reward for their efforts.

Yes a more decent approach would be for them to put their money where their mouth is, buy the domains they find and then sell them. Again I can see 100% where you are coming from but I don't think I would call it scamming, others may disagree and of course, they are welcome to

Trying to sell something you don't own sounds like a scam to me. What if you pay them and then someone else has bought the domain in the interim? Are you getting a refund?

As its not me doing it I cannot answer on that one. At a guess I would imagine they list a domain for best offers, someone says $50.00 before accepting they pop along, purchase the domain for reg fee then accept the offer.

A bit like 10,000's of eBay sellers when they offer items for sale using drop shippers and sale or return. They do not physically own or have the goods until it is actually ordered.

True but a dropshipper can usually provide the product. I guess as scams go it's pretty light. And like toxin proved it's pretty easy for it to go wrong. First thing I'd do before considering buying a domain is look at the whois...

Seems more like a finder's fee to me. I've bought several like that but not at high dollar. A few here at Netpond.

I am not sure it's scamming in the true sense of the word but certainly dishonest.

From what i know,

if someone is selling someones domain, he will come right in front and say i am selling this

domain on behalf of blah blah , and with proof , domain scammers you dont want to deal with is people with hardly any posts and i trader feedbacks,

and they only certain payment options

LoL i love how your trying to spin this glowlite. There is nothing unethical about scanning for domain names, there are many services to do it for you out there. Its a good way to find expired names with traffic or back links. I guess actually finding and registering domains is scamming? Im not the one trying to rip people off for hundreds or thousands of dollars selling them something i dont own.

If your trying to sell something that you dont have any legal right to you and you havent been asked by the legal owner to broker for them you are committing fraud. Every real domain reseller takes a risk when they buy a domain, not knowing if that domain will sell, thats the price of doing business. Give me one good excuse to not register a domain you are going to resell when you can get first year registrations for 1.99?

In theory they are selling them something nobody owns and how could they be asked by the legal owner to sell it as there isn't one?

You better put the pipe away, this threads about selling a domain you DON'T own and didn't reg that's available
for anyone to reg, not about reging it and then reselling it.

It wasn't a 'spin', just pointing out the obvious.
