I got something I have never had before, what would you do..

About a year ago I bought a domain, and I found out now that this domain name is now a movie title that is being produced, It will be released around december or jan of next year. Should I just sell the domain, or figure this is going to be a blockbuster movie and keep it and do something with it? What would you do with it?

The value of the domain will peak during the promo time. IF you bought the dn prior to any public release of the title or intentions it has value. If you bought it after any kind of public knowledge it has no value. You can PM me for my suggested course of action SB.

I found out that it was going to be a movie when I had the dns set up, but didnt set it up on server so it did an instant search on google for it.. Nope never knew it was going to be a movie..

if the prize was right i would sell it, the movie is going to be popular for a short while, why go true all the hassle of building and promoting a site and the uncertainly of making money while you can cash in right now with no efforts at all.

It's iffy since they will have the trademark, so ideally you should let them approach you. Making money off it too can be seen as squatting if you put up anything related to the movie... it's complicated.

I would wait. Those guys are smart people. They use to check everything out. I'm sure that they already know that you are owning the domain. If you own the .com, they will most like sooner or later contact you. If they own the .com and you any another extension, for example .net or .org, they might not and just keep an eye on you what you are doing with the name.

As Hentaikid mentioned already, you are not allowed to make money with their product (movie) except with their permisssion.

I'd wait and maybe buy other extensions, buy other options like:

<movie>themovie

+ I would put one page in each one of the domains with contact email (opened just for that)

in any case, I'd wait until they contact me first.

on the other hand, look at the movie "matrix"... whatisthematrix.warnerbros.com vs matrix.com...

obviously the domain was already taken, so they opened this domain at WB... I think it's a much better option for the movie company as it's basically free...

Go and sue them, that they will be shooting a movie using your brand name

despite the kidding, really dunno what to do. Probably, first i would contact my lawyer and discuss the possibilities with him and mainly the part will they be able to get the name out of my hands, because we all know how easy it is for big companies to get domains from regular webmasters like us..

I would either do as already suggested, pop a movie (mainstream) sponsor on it and plenty of google adwords or leave a message "This Domain Name Is For Sale" and name a price you would be happy with. I do not agree that the movie sponsors will be too bothered and make an offer unless they feel it could be for sale at a reasonable price.

Latest release in the UK "Iron Man" take a look for yourself and you will see that Marvel have IronManMovie.com. Personally SB I would try and sniff out the domain that the movie producers already have lined up

Celebrity/Movie sites are big money, If you don't have the time to develop the domain then you are better of selling it, after all why keep something that could make money and not make money.
