Domain Renewal Problems

I have a domain name that is due to expire in about 7 days. I've registered this domain name through web.com and I really want to transfer my domain name away from them as they charge ridiculous prices and their customer support is lousy.

I need the auth code from web.com to transfer my domain name... what if web.com does not want to play ball? What can I do?

I think they need to let you transfer where ever you want.

7 day period before exp.is a bit short... to be on the safe side I would renew it and then transfer

In general, most transfers happen within 5-7 days depending on winning & losing registrars involved in the transfer and as well the tld involved.

yeah, most registrars won't let you transfer domains when there are 7 days or less till expiration date..

Depends on the gaining Registrar and how they interface with the Registry and the losing Registrar. I've transfered many the day before expiration. Assuming you use one of the top Registrars: Get the auth code, unlock the domain, purchase and initiate the transfer. It will transfer even if the exp date falls inside the 5 day hold period.

Getting ahold of web.com isn't that easy but they will send you the code.
I've transfered domains from there 2 days be4 expir tho...

I had the same problem at godaddy... then I bumped into a small feature they have which is called "domain consolidation"

basically, this allows you to pay per month for a number of months that you choose, in order to have one renewal date for all domains.

*please note that this can be done once per domain per year!

I have a lot of domains, GD fuckers wanted $11~ for each renewal; in addition, I had less than a week on all of them... but then, I found out about this feature...

so, here goes:
consolidate all my domains for one month at godaddy: $150~
phone call with a surprised godaddy representative: $1.6~
pay for all my domains at name.com: ***
total money saved in this operation: $450~

phone call from a surprised godaddy representative that just found out I'm no longer working with them: Priceless!

Arghhh.... thanks for the replies guys! I contacted their hopelessly ridiculous technical support team and have heard nothing.... what can I do to not let it expire?
