It difficult to tell if domains will get type-ins as there are so many factors involved. For example, are people going to type in flashingtit.com or are they looking for titflashing.com, which has been around since 1999. It's a bummer that only a few of the big name grabbers get a free 5 day ride to check out things like this. I can get a 5 day preview for $3, but if I'm paying that, I might as well pay the full year and use the name during that period.

When ever I have an idea for a new site, I use: http://inventory.overture.com/d/sear...ry/suggestion/ to see how many searches my target keyword gets. And how many searches different combos gets. That helps me find a domain that's available, with the highest searches.

results (which btw is now Yahoo/MSN paid results since Yahoo now markets the advertising), and is a little more accurate as wordtracker uses both the
singular and plural of words which overture does not

Don't forget that type-in strings and search strings can be very different. Phrases like "hot sex" will be the same of course, but "Raven boobs naked" could be a search term, but the dot com won't get too many type-ins.

I don't think type-ins are much of a factor anymore, but they might be good for relevant SE traffic. The trend I see is branding a nonsense word as your unique "thing" to make sure you get all the searches

I get some quite good traffic from type-ins. With the right name it's often targetted as well. The big problem is having to guess if they are going to be any good, and the fact that somebody may have already tested them and dropped them because they aren't.

true guys, what i was showing was that these definately have potentional. even if they just earn you back your reg fee and a little extra over the course of a year. names like these would go well with a parking page and may even show up in the SE's, i dont know without testing them, but i've started leaning more towards names like this to keep even a little trickle of typein traffic coming in each month. it just seems that these are things people search for and a complete newb might type in cingularwirelessplan.com thinking that was a site explaining their cell phone plans. it just shows what is still available out there.
