question about buying name and host seperatly
i am thinking of buying a name and hosting from 2 different companys but the host i have in mind charges $1 extra for a static IP, will this make a difference if i buy the name from elseware?

Does your host allow name based IP's?
I have hosting with Cyberwurx and buy my domains from HB, I have 5 unique IP's, if I want more it's $1 per IP, so I just go for name based IP's. What I'd like to know if it makes a difference to the SE's if its unique or namebased though? __________________

It will depend on the agreement that you have with the host. If the hosting company uses part of the profit from registering the domain to provide an extra IP number, then taking that profit away could lose you the "free" IP. Usually hosts work things the other way round and offer cheap domains with the hosting though. The IP is supplied by the host, so it is not really anything to do with the domain name.

The ip is nothing to do with the name (well it is to the extent that it has to be converted somewhere - usually the primary name server). You can have 100 names on one IP or 100 ips on one name.
You will usually have a static IP unless you have set up a special name server that supports dynamic IPs (so that you can use the IP from your ISP for example), but you can share this with a load of other domains, the final routing is done by the server and is independant of the domain registry. __________________
