What information should I use for contact info?
Should I be putting in all my true contact information for my domains or should I be using alias and false info?
I wonder this because I read in the google paper that google keeps track of this info and if too many domains are linked by same owner there is possible penalty. So I was thinking to put in fake info, but I wonder what you all think? Thanks __________________

I use correct information (but sometimes out of date because I haven't got round to changing it). I find that much easier, and there is less risk of being branded as a cheat.

yeah i've been wondering the same thing, msanchez. do we absolutely know for a fact though google checks the real WHOIS info even if it's protected...or is that just speculation?
one reason I ask is because people who register domains through their host have, in many cases, the host's contact info in their domains, not their own personal stuff. so it would seem that there might be issues swapping hardlink in a case like that...which is why i wonder if Google really does put huge emphasis on WHOIS info, and if they dig deep enough to bypass WHOIS protection. i do have a UPS store mailbox for my biz, i was thinking of using that address and my name instead of the company name...not sure though, only two addresses i can really ever use. |

Google probably took notes through its spybar when you registered the domain, so if you use the wrong details, it'll probably think you're up to no good.

Wow I was thinking when google indexed the page so I had a little time. Never really thought of the spybar which is just what they want.... Quote:
The paper goes pretty indepth regarding the WHOIS info but again its all just theory. With google being a registar now I figured thats why they became registar so it seems more likely to me. Another point the google paper makes is the frequency that the contact, technical, etc info is changed. So I was hoping to get a new domain and put it under an alias on dedicated server so I didnt have too many of "my" sites linked together, but Im gonna think a bit more about it. __________________
