Parking new domain names

Ok so lets say i grab a name never used before
would it be worth parking it directly
or would it be better working on it a little for the search engines so that it has more hits

Well if you work it before parking, you run the risk of the search engines dropping the entries. I usually park the names first until I get round to using them. If you put up a few links to your parked page such as including them in your sig on Netpond, then it can help you when you want your real site to get into the SERPs. You can also pick up a few type-ins in the meantime.

I think you can earn more by putting your own pages on an adult site than you can make from parking.

Then how would the parking companies earn any income from your domain name if there is no traffic?

If you take a name that has type-ins, you get SE traffic from the beginning.
You can also put some links up to it on your other sites until you are ready to develop it.

I would rather park it first until I can develop it instead of the other way around too, that's like throwing your work in the trash...

They don't, and neither do you. They earn income from type-ins, old links, and links that you have created.

HB, I have a few unused domains parked at Sedo but they don't allow you to put up links to them? How the fuck are you supposed to drive traffic to them then?

One of these days I must read the Sedo rules.

They've got at least 3 ways they suggest you can send traffic. and I was thinking of using a refresh for the index page, but harvesting the typos. I haven't checked if they allow that though.

I'm not sure that Sedo is the best place for parking, some of the others seem to earn more money. I've been lazy and just dumped a load of minor names on Sedo.

put a sign on your sites saying "please type "my domain dot com" in your browsers adress bar and hit return... ?
