One, Two, Three........a Couple More!

Since someone will be doing all the reasearch I might as well put some effort in with the questions I ask. I've never really understood what everyone is on about with two or three or even four letter domain names. What is the difference anyway and does a search engine go for the longer domain names because of more keywords or what?

Short names are easier to remember, allow for much shorter urls, and less likely to get typos if they are meaningful.

I don't believe that the domain name is a major factor with search engines any more. Except for the fact that a good meaningful domain is more likely to get the surfer to click on your entry.

Yea, sites are usually clicked or selected from a bookmark list anyway, so the spelling or length or hyphens, etc doesn't really matter in terms of return visitors, I don't think. Especially when you just want to get the surfer off your site and to your sponsor's.

Short keyword domains are good for type-in traffic though

Don't think it's very SE relevant

Spelling, length, hyphens and extension are all significant for return visitors, and for recall from advertising views. They aren't so significant for clicked links unless the URL is displayed.
