The first domain forum sweepstake

The prize is a domain name registration or renewal through Buy Any - if you haven't got an account, then you can open a free one when you win. The domain must be a cno domain (.com, .net or .org), and you can take the prize whenever you like as I'll credit your account when the sweep finishes.

Tickets are 85 points each, and the sweep closes as soon as 10 tickets have been sold. I will then announce a future thread number, and the winner is the person that guesses the unit figure in the seconds section of the thread posting time. You just donate the points to me and post your guess for the winning number, first to post a number gets it - duplicates will have to guess again or wait for the next sweep.

Just to clarify the winning selection method.
The first post in this thread was #1028464 and if that had been the number I had selected, the number "8" would be the winner because the post was made at 12:38. Time zones shouldn't make any difference as we are only looking at the seconds.

Hehe I also find it a little bit complicated (actually alot lol). I figured out part with "unit figure in the seconds section" but I have no idea about "The first post in this thread was #1028464" . I mean how do I know number of post or number of therad or whatever...

It's not complicated...here's what you do:

-You pick a number from 0 to 9 and donate 85 points to HB (yes I know you already know that part...)

-At some time in the future, HB will announce a post number.

-In order to figure out what number a specific post is, just mouseover the # on the right hand side of the page. So Tomco's post was #6 in this thread...mouseover the 6 and you'll see 1028547.

-If HB had announced post 1028547, and you had bought a ticket with the guess "8", then you would have won. The reason you would have won is because Tomco's post was made at 8:58...and 8 is the last digit.

-The reason he picked the last digit in the time is because all the other digits in a time are affected by timezones, not just hours. In India, they are like 5 hours and 30 minutes ahead of you...so he had to pick the last number in the time in order for this to work.

It could be in this thread, but unlikely. He won't know what thread it'll be in...he's just picking a specific post number...that could be in any thread.

You just made post #1028600 ...that is Netpond's 1,028,600th post ever. So Head Boy might say, ok, post #1,029,000...we don't know what thread that's going to be in. It could be in any thread.

Think in terms of Netpond's 1,000,000th post...no one knew what thread that was going to be in.

Edit: This might also clarify it:

Let's say he does pick post #1,029,000.

That post will have been made at a specific time. Let's say it's made at 12:43 PM. If you picked #3, you'd win. If you picked #0, #1, #2, or #'s 4-9 you'd lose.

I realised that a really smart poster could probably rig the results by making the correct post at just the right time, but he'd have to be really good.

actually yeah, you could do that...although it would be awfully suspicious if the person who picked the right number was the same person who made that correct post. you could register a series of fake names and use proxies though and have each one make a series of posts in a short amount of time near when the correct post should happen. but anyone who would do that just to win a domain has got some serious issues beyond cheating domain sweepstakes

well this one would be a little harder, because this is more difficult than just make a certain post #...you would have to both make the correct post # and also do it within the right span of 10 minutes...and make sure that no one else posted while you were trying to do that....it could probably be done but there's no foolproof method that wouldn't still be somewhat suspicious unless you had a lot of people in on it and told them to post right around when you knew the post would be made....and that couldn't happen because no one would want to split up a $10 prize.

I don't care if the winner makes the selection post. If he's that good he deserves to win, but I don't believe anyone could do it.
