You forgot to mention 800.000 got deleted! So that puts things into perspective. Plenty of space for the people buying indiscriminately to go bankrupt and leave their domains expire

They reg on three day trials without paying anything, and they delete the crap and keep the good ones.

I think onlinenic has that option, now that HB mentions it, though I don't know if they encourage you to use it that way?

This must be a new thing, because with DNS updating in 48 hours it couldn't have been a reliable method before

Registrars can do it, and some are abusing the privilege.

HB is talking about large companies backed by venture capital or big domain players who are backed by, or own a registrar, and register a shitload of domains and take advantage of the brief grace period that registrars get. They see how much traffic the domain gets for a few days and dump it if it doesn't get enough.

You can't do this yourself, and OnlineNIC does not provide the ability to get a refund.
