Afternic vs. Sedo vs. eBay
When comparing Afternic, Sedo, and eBay for selling domains, which do you like best and why? Which don't you like?
These are my impressions from searching webmaster/domain boards: -Sedo is better for higher-end names and is a bigger marketplace. -Afternic is better for mediocre and cheap names, but Afternic Bazaar sucks. -eBay you can sometimes find an end user and sell it for more than you would to a webmaster, but you don't have the same security you do with Sedo/Afternic. Any thoughts about this? Anyone have particularly good or bad experiences when selling adult (or even mainstream) domains through any of these venues? ![]() |

Sedo seems to get good prices, but their negotiating system is crap. They've lost me 3 sales in the last few months.
Haven't used after NIC. Ebay seems to be good for selling what I call pratt names, and names with mass produced sites hung on them. Pratt names are names that look really good, but are pretty useless for getting traffic of for surfer recall. It also used to be standard to charge a "transfer" fee and make your profit from that when you sell a name for $1. __________________

Fuck the system, it fucking sucks

Interesting thread..
I tried selling a few domains on eBay without success, I currently have a $2K offer for a domain I registered at Yahoo for $2.99 a few days ago (prolly a wanker jerking me around), and I just signed up for Afternic but haven't tried them yet. All I can say about Sedo is their charges are fucking over the top, €50 ($62) for selling a domain so like you said Sedo is only good for high value domains |

Afternic is $60 up to $600, and if it's more than $600, you pay 10%. If you use Afternic Bazaar, it's like a reverse auction, and it only costs a few bucks. The problem is that escrow isn't included ($30 if you want it) and the buyer and seller make the domain transfer directly AND make the payment directly...which sucks because it's easy for both parties to bail if they want. (and of course for Afternic there are the fees to join in the first place to sell) |
